Thrive Tutoring is seeking a dedicated, full-time private teacher to support a middle school student in Gallatin, TN. This is a unique and highly personalized educational placement designed for a family who deeply values close collaboration, academic support, and whole-child development.

The family’s current teacher (who has been with them for 3 years and is highly valued) is transitioning out of the role due to maternity leave. Our goal is to ensure a seamless transition with a new teacher reading to begin in mid September.

About the Student and Family

  • The student benefits from individualized academic support, enrichment opportunities, and consistent routines.
  • The family is looking for a full-time teacher who is both academically strong and able to serve as a supportive presence for their son.
  • Additional collaboration with the family's trusted educational consultant will be expected.
  • The student has some motor and visual challenges. While no formal diagnosis was shared, the family is proactive in ensuring he has proper accommodations at school.

Responsibilities

During the School Year (25 hrs/week):

  • Monday–Thursday (1:00 PM – 6:00 PM):
  • 1:00–3:00 PM: Act as a family assistant (light errands, grocery shopping, laundry, preparing learning spaces—all child-centered tasks).
  • 3:00–6:00 PM: Pick up from school, facilitate snack and movement breaks, provide academic support with homework/study routines, and re-teach challenging concepts when needed.
  • Saturday (4:00 PM – 9:00 PM):
  • Serve in both academic support and caregiving roles while parents are out. Includes enrichment activities and preparing the student for the week ahead.
  • Fridays & Sundays: Off

During Summer (May 22 – July 24):

  • Monday–Thursday (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM):
  • Goals slightly shift - provide academic enrichment, organize interest-based activities (fishing, hockey, etc.), and support overall well-being and continued learning.
  • Saturday (4:00 PM – 9:00 PM):
  • Maintain consistent caregiving and enrichment routine.
  • Fridays & Sundays: Off

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Background in reading instruction, academic intervention, and special education
  • Experience supporting students with learning differences or motor/visual challenges
  • At least 2 years of experience as an interventionist, private teacher, or tutor
  • Highly dependable and organized with strong follow-through
  • Comfortable balancing teaching and light family assistance duties
  • Able to commit to a full-year, 12-month role with summer responsibilities
  • Strong communicator who can collaborate with parents, teachers, and consultants
  • Self-starter with high emotional intelligence and flexibility

This is a meaningful opportunity for an educator who wants to build a lasting relationship with a family, make a measurable impact, and enjoy a well-compensated, structured teaching role with long-term potential. Family mentioned some motor challenges as well as some visual challenges. They work with an educational consultant (also very valued) who helps ensure the student is getting the accommodations and support that he needs at school. They would love for their new teacher to collaborate with this person as well!
