Private Teacher - Middle & High School Math

Overview

We are seeking a passionate, reliable, and highly skilled Private Math Teacher specializing in Middle and High School Mathematics to join our growing team at What I Learned Today Private Teaching and Tutoring Services. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping students build confidence, close learning gaps, and achieve academic success through hands-on, engaging instruction.

The ideal candidate is experienced in teaching a wide range of math concepts—from elementary math review through Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus (and beyond)—and is committed to adapting instruction to meet each learner’s individual needs. Instruction may be delivered in-person (Palmetto, Parrish, Bradenton, Sarasota) or virtually, depending on student placement.

We are looking for educators who value relationship-building, consistency, and results, and who can create structured yet engaging lessons that foster both academic growth and student confidence.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement personalized lesson plans aligned with each student’s academic level, goals, and curriculum
• Deliver hands-on, engaging math instruction in:
• Elementary Math (as needed for foundational review)
• Algebra 1
• Algebra 2
• Geometry
• Pre-Calculus and higher-level math (as applicable)
• Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles, including students who may struggle with focus, confidence, or sensory needs
• Maintain high levels of student engagement and on-task behavior throughout each session
• Assess student progress regularly and provide clear, constructive feedback to students and families
• Communicate with parents at the end of each session (in-person or via ClassDojo) including:
• Skills covered
• Student performance
• Areas of growth and improvement
• Maintain accurate lesson logs and attendance records using company platforms (TutorBird/ClassDojo)
• Provide additional resources or support materials to families when requested
• Build strong relationships with students and families while maintaining professional boundaries
• Foster a positive, encouraging learning environment that builds student confidence and independence

Qualifications

• Strong background in mathematics, including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus
• Ability to support elementary math foundations when needed
• Experience teaching or tutoring middle and/or high school students (private, public, or tutoring setting)
• Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear, engaging, and hands-on manner
• Strong classroom/session management skills and ability to keep students focused and engaged
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience with differentiated instruction and adapting lessons to individual learners
• Reliable, punctual, and highly organized
• Comfortable using (or willing to learn) platforms such as ClassDojo and TutorBird
• Teaching certification, special education experience, or experience with diverse learners is a plus

Position Details

• Location: In-person (Palmetto, Parrish, Bradenton, Sarasota) and/or Virtual
• Schedule: Flexible, based on student needs
• Session Structure:
• 55-minute sessions (50 minutes instruction + 5 minutes parent communication)
• 30-minute sessions (27 minutes instruction + 3 minutes parent communication)
• Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience
