Process Engineer
Location: Maple Grove, MN 55311
Job Type: Long Term Contract
Schedule: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, onsite
Pay Rate: Up to $46 per hour
This position offers the opportunity to support process development and product commercialization across a global manufacturing network. In this role, you will collaborate cross-functionally to lead the development of complex technologies for new products, drive new business and rapid-prototyping initiatives, and ensure the efficient transfer of products into full-scale production.
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically strong individual capable of solving complex problems both hands-on and in team settings. You will work in a fast-paced environment across multiple functions within a global organization, leveraging your technical expertise, collaborative mindset, and passion for innovation and continuous improvement to accelerate product commercialization and targeted process advancements.
Key Responsibilities
• Partner with R&D to develop design specifications, draft test methods, and drive material selection.
• Provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) input for engineering print packages.
• Apply technical expertise to innovate, design, and develop processes, procedures, tooling, and automation.
• Contribute creative, innovative ideas to solve complex technical challenges.
• Propose or evaluate new technologies to support future business growth.
• Oversee development builds and initial production builds using Special Work Requests (SWRs).
• Train and provide direction to technicians and engineers; support manufacturing personnel training during validations.
• Assess process capabilities, identify and prioritize improvement opportunities, and implement process enhancements.
• Prepare and present technical data and recommendations to stakeholders to influence project decisions.
• Write and review validation protocols and reports for new processes.
• Execute deliverables in alignment with PDP/TDP and the Quality System.
• Ensure all required documentation is completed to meet quality system requirements (e.g., print packages, drawing trees, BOMs, routers, process risk documentation, flowcharts, characterization, TMV, OQ/PQ).
• Collaborate with operations, manufacturing engineering, and quality engineering to support seamless product transfer into production.
Minimum Qualifications
• BS in Engineering with 2–4 years of relevant experience.
• Strong engineering fundamentals, problem-solving abilities, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Proven ability to create and drive innovative solutions for products and processes.
• Demonstrated experience working cross-functionally in a technically demanding environment.
• Strong communication and time-management skills.
• Ability to travel up to 10% for vendor visits, supplier visits, or conferences.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience developing and characterizing extruded processes (e.g., free extrusion, over-core, coextrusion, over braid, reel-to-reel, multi-lumen, bump extrusion).
• Experience working with polymers such as Pebax, Nylon, PEEK, and Urethanes.
• Understanding of how extrusion inputs affect outputs.
• Ability to develop equipment and fixtures from concept through production.
• Experience using DFSS tools (DOE, structured problem solving).
• Background in mechanical design, automation/controls, and programming.
• Strong understanding of statistics and proficiency with statistical analysis software.
• Medical device or other regulated industry experience with knowledge of quality systems.
• Experience serving as a technical project lead, coordinating teams, and driving results.
