Process Operator – Chemical Industry
Job Purpose:
To operate, monitor, and control chemical production processes safely and efficiently. The Process Operator ensures equipment runs smoothly, adheres to quality standards, and maintains a safe working environment by following operational procedures and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Process Operation & Monitoring

Operate reactors, mixers, pumps, heat exchangers, distillation columns, and other chemical processing equipment.

Monitor process parameters (pressure, temperature, flow, level, pH, etc.) through control panels (DCS/SCADA).

Adjust process variables to maintain product quality and ensure safe operation.

Record daily operational data and report any abnormalities.
2. Equipment Handling

Start up, shut down, and troubleshoot process units according to SOPs.

Perform basic mechanical checks such as valve operation, filter cleaning, and equipment lubrication.

Ensure equipment is clean, functioning properly, and maintained.
3. Safety & Compliance
-
Follow all safety procedures including PPE use, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and permit-to-work systems.

Identify hazards, unsafe conditions, or process deviations and report immediately.

Handle chemicals safely—including corrosive, flammable, and toxic substances—according to MSDS/SDS guidelines.

Assist in emergency response drills and follow plant emergency protocols.
4. Quality Assurance

Ensure the final product meets quality specifications.

Collect samples for laboratory testing and communicate results to supervisors.

Report any deviations that impact quality.
5. Housekeeping & Documentation
-
Maintain good housekeeping in the operating area.

Complete log sheets, production reports, and shift handover notes accurately.

Ensure compliance with ISO, GMP, and regulatory requirements.
6. Coordination & Communication
-
Work closely with maintenance, safety, and quality teams.

Communicate issues clearly during shift handover to maintain continuity.

Assist in training new operators when required.
Key Skills:

Strong understanding of chemical plant operations

Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills

Ability to read P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and control panel indicators

Good communication and teamwork

Strong attention to detail and safety awareness

Ability to work under pressure and in rotating shifts
Qualifications:
-
Diploma or Certificate in Chemical Engineering, Process Technology, Industrial Technology, or equivalent
-
+10 years of experience as a Process Operator (experience in chemical, petrochemical, or manufacturing preferred)
-
Knowledge of DCS/SCADA systems is an advantage
-
Safety certifications (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH awareness, process safety training) are beneficial
