This is an exempt position based at our Oakland, California location and will report directly to the Director of Research & Development.

About the Role

We are looking for a Process Technology Manager to join our R&D team. You will play a critical role in continuing to improve and scale Voyage's cacao-free chocolate, peanut-free spreads, bean-free coffee, and potential future platforms. As we are a start-up and small team, responsibilities can vary daily and will also include general operations. What You'll Do

• Lead the commercialization of new products from pilot scale to full-scale manufacturing.
• Support product development and research teams in taking new products from benchtop to pilot plant.
• Manage & mentor a team of three peers.
  Plan and execute plant trials across Voyage's in-house production facility and external co-manufacturing partners.
• Lead process innovation initiatives including research, process improvements and new technology development that reduce cost, improve yield and quality, and broaden Voyage's intellectual property.
• Manage technical transfers between facilities, validating equipment compatibility, process parameters, and production.
• Support capital projects to identify, install, and commission new equipment tied to product launches and line expansions.

• Provide hands-on technical support at both pilot and commercial scale, troubleshooting equipment and processes to maintain efficiency and product integrity.
• Analyze production data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement, applying statistical methods and process modeling to drive decisions.

• Work cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Engineering, and Operations to ensure new products meet Voyage's standards for safety, quality, and profitability.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, batch records, and process documentation for scale-up and commercial readiness.

What Makes You Successful / What Makes a Great Candidate

• 10+ years experience in food manufacturing
• Bachelor's degree in food science, chemical engineering
• Functional knowledge and experience in process chemistry and process design
• Experience with chocolate, spreads, or coffee is a plus
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• 3+ years managing
• Ability to travel up to 30% of the time
