The Procurement Engineer – MEP is responsible for planning, sourcing, and procuring mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) materials, equipment, and services for construction projects. The role ensures timely procurement within budget, compliance with project specifications, and coordination with vendors and project teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procurement Planning & Execution:
- Review project requirements, specifications, and approved drawings to determine procurement needs for MEP systems.
- Prepare procurement schedules and material take-offs in coordination with project engineers.
- Ensure timely purchase of materials and equipment to meet project milestones.
- Vendor Management:
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify vendors and subcontractors for MEP supplies.
- Obtain quotations, negotiate prices, delivery terms, and payment terms with vendors.
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, timely delivery, and competitive pricing.
- Tendering & Documentation:
- Prepare purchase requests, RFQs (Request for Quotation), and technical comparison sheets.
- Evaluate vendor proposals and recommend the best options considering quality, cost, and delivery time.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, contracts, and correspondence for audits and reporting.
- Coordination & Compliance:
- Coordinate with project engineers, site teams, and consultants for technical clarifications and approvals.
- Ensure all purchased materials comply with project specifications, local codes, and standards.
- Monitor delivery schedules, inspect received materials, and report discrepancies or delays.
- Cost Control & Reporting:
- Monitor procurement budgets and report cost variations.
- Suggest cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.
- Prepare regular procurement reports and updates for management.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in MEP procurement for construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of MEP systems, materials, and market suppliers.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in MS Office and procurement software (ERP, SAP, or similar).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Preferred:
- Experience in large-scale residential or commercial projects.
- Knowledge of international standards (BS, ASTM, NFPA, etc.) related to MEP systems.
