Procurement Manager

Position Summary:

Since we built our first pumps in 1938, Carver Pump has become recognized as one of the leading centrifugal pump companies, building pumps to the most demanding engineering specifications and military standards in the world. Pumps are essential to industry, shipbuilding, and our everyday lives.

We use a high mix/low volume production model to meet a wide range of unique requirements. Our emphasis is on high quality custom products with short lead times and competitive pricing.

Our Procurement Manager will focus not only on driving cost containment but will create an atmosphere that focuses on the overall value created and total costs throughout the purchasing cycle. Our purchasing and supply chain departments collaborate closely with our manufacturing and engineering teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide data-driven leadership in all areas of responsibility.

· Collect and analyze data to provide fiscally responsible recommendations to Senior Management

· Develop highly skilled employees and effective teams.

· Forecast needs and supplies

· Quarterly cost and spend reviews

· Research suppliers and vendors to meet the financial goals of the company

· Prepare purchase orders and packing slips, solicit bid proposals and review requisitions for goods and services.

· Safeguard supplier compliance with specific certifications, accreditations, and insurance

· Review requests for proposals

· Negotiate contracts with suppliers

· Ensure business partners continue to meet company needs

Essential Skills:

· Strong research and analytical skills

· Demonstrated success at process improvement

· Basic technical understanding, ability to read technical drawings

· Fundamental manufacturing accounting practices

· Supplier development and supply chain management

· Proficient in inventory management software and Microsoft Package

· Understanding of ISO 9001 requirements

Background Requisites:

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field or equivalent combination of education and purchasing experience

· At least five years of relevant purchasing experience in a manufacturing facility

· Must have relevant management experience

Relationships:

Reports directly to the Operations Manager

Manages all personnel in the Purchasing Department

Physical/Environmental Conditions:

Indoor office/shop environment

Infrequent overnight travel

Physical Abilities:

Light physical daily activity with occasional moderate activity related to lab / shop areas and occasional archival filing

Successful completion of a job-specific post-offer/pre-employment criminal background check, drug screen and physical required.
