The Procurement Specialist is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials needed for production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the flow of materials and ensuring timely delivery to meet production goals. Working closely with suppliers, engineering, and production teams, the Procurement Specialist ensures that all purchasing activities support operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with quality standards.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Develop and manage production schedules by balancing forecasted and actual demand, material availability, manufacturing lead times, and production capacity across multiple work centers.
- Ensure timely availability and delivery of materials to support production schedules.
- Use the ERP system to manage inventory levels, create and release purchase and work orders, track supplier deliveries, and maintain accurate production schedules.
- Analyze demand and inventory data to forecast material requirements and support production planning.
- Source and procure materials from existing and new vendors as required to support production and development needs.
- Ensure new vendors are properly and timely set up within the ERP system.
- Monitor inventory levels across raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery and resolve material shortages or supply chain issues.
- Coordinate material usage and certification, ensuring materials meet required quality standards prior to release to production.
- Track and maintain accurate material status and documentation throughout the production lifecycle.
- Develop, track, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to procurement, inventory management, and production scheduling, and implement improvements based on KPI data.
- Perform administrative activities related to closing production orders, maintaining inventory records, and ensuring compliance with company policies and standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in purchasing, demand management, and production planning using lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience in a buying, planning, or material management role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in metal component manufacturing within the aviation industry.
- Proven experience using ERP software for purchasing, production planning, and inventory management.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications to understand material and production requirements.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel or similar data manipulation software.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with suppliers, production teams, and other stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical or secondary education in machining or CNC operations, or equivalent hands-on manufacturing experience.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, concentration, and precision required for multi-axis machining of tight-tolerance aerospace components.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T, and communicate effectively with engineering and quality teams.
- Proven problem-solving skills in a CNC manufacturing environment, including troubleshooting tooling, setup, or process issues.
- Light CNC programming or on-machine editing experience, with solid foundational knowledge of manual machining and general shop practices.
