POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Producer, WETA Digital Media is a multi-faceted role focused on creating original digital content in all media, with an emphasis on educational video for and about the Washington, D.C. area community. Candidates must have the ability to research and write clear and compelling copy; expertise producing, shooting, and editing compelling video pieces; and knowledge of analytics for online video and social media platforms.

The Producer works closely with the Director, Digital Projects, and other Digital Media staff to identify opportunities, develop local history content, develop new digital content strands, and improve existing content offerings on weta.org and WETA’s associated digital properties.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on story ideas, processes, and archival materials.
  • Produce video pieces for WETA’s Boundary Stones video series.
  • Work with members of the WETA Digital Media team to produce other video pieces and social media content, which highlight the people, places, and culture of the Greater Washington, D.C. community.
  • Closely monitor analytics for video platforms, social media accounts, and WETA websites. Use data to inform new content creation and promotion strategies.
  • Carefully monitor AI tools, which impact media production.
  • Collaborate with local television producers on related interstitial and short form video content.
  • Write content pieces for weta.org, Boundary Stones, and other WETA websites.
  • Contribute to promotional planning sessions and content brainstorming sessions.
  • Help produce weekly WETA E-Highlights newsletter.
  • Continue to develop production skills through training courses and workshops.
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the WETA Digital Media team and complete special projects, or other duties as assigned.

Additional Skills And Qualifications

  • College degree in English, history, journalism, digital media, or related field.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in video production and editing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud apps, particularly Premiere and After Effects.
  • Superior research, writing, and time management skills.
  • Sound editorial judgement and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven video production skills.
  • Flexibility to work with a team, but also work individually.
  • Passion for media production and storytelling.

Education

  • College degree in English, history, journalism, digital media, or related field.

LOCATION:

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
