For over 40 years Travis Industries has been designing and building industry leading award winning hearth heating appliances. We are the largest privately held wood, gas, and pellet stove, insert, and fireplace company in America encompassing multiple brands; Fireplace Xtrodinair, DaVinci Custom Fireplaces, Lopi, and Tempest Torch. Our products are all built in the "House of Fire", our Mukilteo Washington facility encompassing over 11 acres of manufacturing under one roof.

The Product Designer will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing new fireplace products from initial sketch through production-ready specifications. This role requires a strong blend of creativity, technical skill, and understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and consumer behavior. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product management, marketing, and manufacturing teams to deliver products that are both beautiful and functional.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create innovative product concepts for gas, electric, and wood-burning fireplaces.
  • Develop 2D and 3D designs, renderings, prototypes, and detailed specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Select appropriate materials, finishes, and components aligned with manufacturing capabilities.
  • Conduct user research, market analysis, and trend evaluations to inform design decisions.
  • Work with manufacturing teams to optimize designs for production efficiency and cost.
  • Support product testing, prototyping, and iterative refinement throughout development.
  • Maintain accurate design documentation and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Design, or related field.
  • 3+ years of product design experience (fireplaces, appliances, or consumer products preferred)
  • Strong portfolio showcasing aesthetics, problem-solving, and technical proficiency.
  • Proficiency in CAD/3D modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods such as sheet metal fabrication, casting, injection molding, and assembly processes.
  • Understanding of UL/CSA standards and product safety regulations (a plus).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
