Position title: Product Manager
Reports to: Director of Technical Operations
FLSA status: Exempt

Position Summary
The Product Manager at Your Health Idaho is responsible for overseeing a team of product owners and ensuring ongoing value and viability for their product area within the Your Health Idaho exchange. The Product Manager will work across areas of the business to understand business and customer needs, design solutions to accomplish those objectives, and continue to evaluate product designs for ongoing opportunities. The product manager works with end-users, business, and technical teams to understand opportunities, risks, and user needs. This role is responsible for taking charge of designing and documenting system specifications, determining functional requirements, documenting work tickets for the development team using an agile framework, and ultimately seeing roadmap items through the software development lifecycle and deployment. Once deployed, the product owner will maintain a product roadmap for future system enhancements to ensure long term product success in support of the organization’s strategic goals.

Responsibilities (Position may include additional functions not listed)

  • Develop extensive knowledge of the organization’s technology, including policy and business requirements, as well as user needs.
  • Conduct market research and analyze market trends related to the exchange platform, healthcare digital products, insurance, tax, and federal health programs.
  • Establish structured intake and prioritization processes for product feedback.
  • Assess product opportunities and risks based on user input and needs and market tends to define the overall product strategy and roadmap for product area.
  • Apply techniques for roadmap prioritization to ensure continued delivery of high value enhancements for the organization.
  • Document product epics, stories, and tasks to ensure effective completion of roadmap milestones through the development process.
  • Collaborate closely with software developers to ensure the product vision is actualized in an effective manner through the development lifecycle.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to ensure the right stakeholders are engaged at the right time in the product lifecycle.
  • Prepare product documentation including product specifications, user guides, UAT documents, launch strategies, and change notifications.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with quality analysts, business analysts, and other internal roles to ensure cohesive interpretation of the products’ functions.
  • Collaborate with release management on planning cadences and roadmap reviews to plan releases based on the overall vision for the product roadmap and evolution over time.
  • Collaborate closely with internal security experts to ensure products apply system and data security best practices while complying with HIPAA, ARC-AMPE, and other security frameworks.
  • Provide support on new initiatives and work with staff as necessary to resolve issues.
  • Define and standardize key product metrics for clarity and consistency.
  • Set the leadership vision and demonstrate the behaviors necessary as a leader to ensure an effective team culture.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to enable the product team to effectively meet business and operational needs.
  • Effectively monitor and maintain staff performance levels (i.e., quality, productivity, time management, report progress and completion, and other expectations of the team).
  • Directly supervise the product team, to include overseeing all day-to-day activities, interviewing/hiring, training and coaching, scheduling and schedule adherence, performance management, and handling disciplinary situations.
  • Complete weekly catchups and monthly performance reviews to ensure continued employee engagement with members of the product Team
  • Applies a deep understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SLDC) methodologies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications (Required knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, etc.)

  • Bachelor’s degree in software development, product engineering, or related discipline.
  • 3+ years’ experience in Product Operations, Product Management, Program Management, or a similar cross-functional leadership role.
  • Excellent leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead a team.
  • Proven experience functioning within the software development life cycle.
  • Exceptional customer service skills including an aptitude and temperament for technical systems development.
  • Experience using the Atlassian product suite as well as participating in the software development lifecycle through Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with design tools such as the Adobe Creative Cloud or Figma.
  • Experience optimizing complex enterprise systems.
  • Expertise in cloud-based architectures, AI-driven troubleshooting, and DevOps methodologies.
  • Ability to research, define and analyze business problems.
  • Knowledge of software development and maintenance methodologies.
  • Proficient with Windows and web-based systems including Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Critical thinking abilities to take complex, ambiguous, abstract requirements and break them into smaller components, patterns, views and features.
  • Ability to effectively communicate business concepts to technical audiences as well as technical and data concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication as well as business writing skills.
  • Proven ability in relationship building and facilitation.
  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality policies and procedures consistent with the values and integrity of YHI.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a fast-paced, quickly evolving organization, manage multiple complex priorities and respond effectively to change.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and under tight deadlines.
  • A committed self-starter with exceptional interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills with ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive work relationships.

Physical & Other Requirements

  • Ability to work in office and workshop settings. Frequent facilitation of meetings, workshops, or group meetings. Use of normal office machines and audio-visual equipment for presentations.
  • Ability to listen to and understand others as well as ability to give and receive instructions via telephone, computer messages, face-to-face, and in writing. Must possess the ability to write and compose correspondence, memorandums, and reports manually and via computer or email as well as be able to make presentations.
  • Availability to work additional hours or weekends as projects demand. Some travel may be required.
