Product Sourcing & Import Specialist (China / International Trade)

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Product Sourcing & Import Specialist who understands how to source products from China and other low-cost manufacturing countries. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in negotiating with suppliers, reducing MOQs, and managing the full sourcing process from factory to final delivery.
You should be confident using platforms such as Alibaba, 1688, Made-in-China, and Global Sources, and have a strong grasp of international shipping terms, customs clearance, import duties, and logistics coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Source products from China and other international manufacturing markets.
- Identify reliable factories and suppliers and conduct thorough supplier due diligence.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs) directly with manufacturers.
- Compare supplier quotes and verify product quality through sample ordering and product testing.
- Manage shipping methods including air freight, sea freight, and express shipping.
- Handle import/export documentation and logistics including DDP, FOB, EXW, CIF, customs clearance, duties, and taxes.
- Coordinate shipping from factory to warehouse or customer, working with ports, freight companies, and customs agents.
- Monitor production timelines and track shipments to ensure on-time delivery.
- Help reduce landed product costs while maintaining quality standards.
- Manage supplier communications across different time zones effectively.
- Assist with private labelling, product development, and ecommerce importing where required.
Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience sourcing products internationally, particularly from China.
- Strong working knowledge of Alibaba, 1688, Made-in-China, and Global Sources.
- Deep understanding of international trade terminology and shipping processes.
- Experience negotiating MOQs and factory pricing to achieve competitive landed costs.
- Knowledge of freight forwarding, import duties, VAT, tariffs, and customs procedures.
- Ability to identify trustworthy suppliers and avoid fraudulent or unreliable manufacturers.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and organisational skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
Preferred Experience
- Experience importing into the UK or Europe.
- Existing relationships with freight forwarders or factories.
- Knowledge of Amazon FBA, ecommerce, or retail importing.
- Experience in product development or private labelling.
- Ability to assess supplier credibility and verify certifications.
