Production and Facilities Manager

Peter-Lacke USA is seeking a Production and Facilities Manager - Paint and Coatings for our manufacturing facility in Troy, MI. This individual will oversee, delegate, and support the plans, goals and objectives of the manufacturing and warehouse departments. This role requires both hands-on and leadership experience across all aspects of the paint and coatings manufacturing process, as well as responsibility for facility operations and compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership & Production Operations

  • Direct supervisory responsibility for all Production and Warehouse Team members. Main responsibilities are to lead and train team members in compliance with company protocol.
  • Responsible for overseeing the manufacturing and warehouse process from start to finish, ensuring the production schedules, raw materials, and finished goods are all managed efficiently to meet the customers’ expectations and needs.
  • Lead by example through a hands-on approach, maintaining an active presence in manufacturing and warehouse operations to support safety, quality, efficiency, and team effectiveness.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with global team members and leadership, supporting alignment with company goals.
  • Responsible for the manufacturing of quality paint in the most safe and efficient manner to fulfill all our customer/customer needs.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership qualities to provide efficient and functional manufacturing and warehouse teams.
  • Continuously monitor manufacturing and warehouse process for efficiency, and/or cost improvements where necessary.
  • Responsible for stopping production process in order to correct a quality problem.
  • Performance management maintained with direct reports. Provide timely and relevant goals / training with continuous and relevant feedback.

Metrics & Reporting

  • Maintain metrics for on time performance of manufacturing batches for customers, and report monthly.
  • Maintain metrics for stock movement/physical inventory of the warehouse to meet company compliance and/or targets.
  • Maintain and implement capital expenditures in the manufacturing department. Report on a monthly basis status / progress of such expenses.

Manufacturing Processes & Equipment

  • Cleaning of equipment such as wash tanks, production equipment, valves and general plant and floor maintenance.
  • Understanding raw material coding system and raw material storage locations.
  • Understanding general batch ticket use, instructions and in-process checks, weighing of raw materials, proper use of scales.
  • Understanding the proper use of general manufacturing related equipment including mixers, material handling equipment, tanks, pumps and valves, and filtration.
  • Understanding of documentation; filling out batch tickets and formula revision forms.
  • Knowledge of how to calculate weight to gallons and gallons to weight.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to rules and regulations pertaining to Safety (OSHA) and other Federal Guidelines for working with and handling hazardous materials.
  • Promotes and uses the elements of the companies’ quality system by being familiar with its philosophy and disciplines. This position as with all positions in the company has the responsibility and authority to prevent the occurrence or reoccurrence of product non-conformity.

Facilities Management

  • Responsible for State of Michigan MDEQ reporting, in conjunction with ASTI.
  • Directly supervise maintenance personnel and oversee all interior and exterior facility maintenance.
  • Ensure facility compliance with all local, state, and company requirements.
  • Manage, lead and participate in all current and future facility expansion projects.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of (5) years of experience in all aspects of paint or coating manufacturing with a minimum of (2) years of experience in a team leader or supervisory role with tasks including manufacturing oversight, delegation, and communicating with senior level managers.
  • Ability to lead production team through daily tasks and orders.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods of paint manufacturing.
  • Good organizational skills and habits. Ability to manage time to meet commitments, deadlines, and customer schedules.
  • Experience using SAP in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and able to present oneself in a professional manner.
  • Ability to comprehend basic math calculations, understands the calculation of weights and measurements, and interprets data from various estimates.
  • Experience working on a global team.

Work Environment

This position requires regular presence in a manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and moving mechanical parts. Noise levels are usually moderate.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
