Production Artist Department Lead

Position Overview

Mark Maker is a family-owned manufacturing company in the packaging industry, and we’re growing. We’re seeking an experienced Production Artist Department Lead to guide our production art team and ensure exceptional execution from concept to press.

This role is ideal for a senior Production Artist who enjoys mentoring others, improving workflows, and owning the quality and efficiency of prepress production. You’ll work hands-on with artwork while also leading day-to-day department operations, collaborating closely with design, production, and leadership to deliver high-quality printed packaging that meets both creative and technical standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Development

• Lead, mentor, and support the Production Artist team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Assign work, balance workloads, and prioritize deadlines to ensure projects move smoothly through production
• Serve as the primary technical resource for complex prepress or file-related challenges
• Train team members on prepress standards, best practices, and evolving print technologies

Production & Prepress Excellence

• Prepare, review, and approve print-ready artwork, ensuring files meet all specifications for digital and offset printing
• Oversee file preflighting, quality control, and proof generation for both internal review and client approval
• Ensure accurate color management, color correction, and separations across all projects
• Convert files from various formats (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) into optimized print-ready formats such as PDF, EPS, and TIFF
• Troubleshoot artwork and production issues quickly and effectively

Process Improvement & Collaboration

• Partner with customer service, sales, and production teams to ensure seamless handoff and alignment across departments
• Establish and refine department workflows, documentation, and quality standards
• Maintain an organized digital asset management and archival system
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and elevate output quality

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Graphic Design, Print Production, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Advanced expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
• Strong understanding of printing techniques, file formats, color theory, and prepress processes
• Proven leadership or senior-level experience in a production art or prepress environment
• Exceptional attention to detail with a strong commitment to quality control
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production setting
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative leadership style

Preferred Experience

• Experience leading or mentoring a production art or prepress team
• Background in packaging, labeling, or manufacturing print environments
• Demonstrated ability to improve workflows and production efficiency
• A strong portfolio showcasing print-ready production work

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
