Production Engineer
Summary
The Production Engineering position will report to the Surge Production Engineering Supervisor and will provide a range of engineering, technical and operational support. This position will provide technical assistance to the field organization in the daily management of production operations to help maximize profitability by increasing revenue and lowering costs. It will also provide technical mentorship to other production engineers and will work collaboratively with Asset Teams and Operations Supervisors to identify, evaluate and implement projects that add value and improve operational effectiveness. It will also work with other departments to help ensure overall business coordination. While the position will be office-based regular travel to the operations will be required to fulfill role responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering studies and develop opportunities to optimize facility and well performance, maximize oil recovery and reduce costs (debottlenecking, well interventions, well optimization, stimulation, chemical programs, etc.).
- Develop and maintain the Surge production engineering and operations process framework to be utilized when integrating new wells and assets into the Surge portfolio. This includes, but is not limited to, production monitoring and surveillance, downtime analysis, standard operating procedures, data capture and management, metrics, failure analysis, artificial lift selection, well stimulation and optimization, etc.
- Mentor, provide functional guidance regarding engineering design, risk assessment, procurement, operability assurance, and project cost and schedule estimating, tracking and forecasting.
- Design and execute projects from authorization through overseeing field implementation.
- Troubleshoot well productivity issues and equipment upsets or failures.
- Provide real time support to the Production Operations Team in all aspects of production management, base production optimization, well remedial and workovers.
- Participate in planning and coordination of efforts in support of the Asset Team and other departments.
- Manage the portfolio of well and facility base capital projects within budgets and schedule goals set by the asset team.
- Ensure that designs meet applicable engineering standards and governmental regulations, and that appropriate operational input is incorporated into the designs.
- Work collaboratively with fellow Production Engineers to provide real-time support to the Production Operations Team in all aspects of production management and optimization.
- Provide production-related training programs, training and mentorship to engineers and operations personnel.
- Assist operations management in the preparation, planning and execution of the surface and downhole annual budgets and long-range plans.
- Assist HSE and operations management to ensure compliance with production-related laws and regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Solid understanding of well analytics, downhole cased-hole operations, and stimulations and completions equipment and practices.
- Strong background in production surveillance and optimization.
- Working knowledge of artificial lift methods including: ESP, Rod Pump, Gas Lift, and Plunger Lift
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented organization.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision – a self-starter and highly self-directed.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 5+ years direct experience in production engineering design, standards, and codes, production operations support, engineering principles and practices, and business analysis.
- Experience working on Permian Basin horizontal well production design, well stimulation and completions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Spotfire, Cygnet, XSPOC and production data analytics and data base applications.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of production engineering, operations, or team lead experience within the upstream oil and gas industry.
- Experience with defect elimination, artificial lift failure analysis, risk management and safe well work practices.
- Significant experience with artificial lift selection, design and specification, with a focus on ESP and Rod Pumping, and basic knowledge in other artificial lift techniques.
- Working knowledge of various computer and data tools including production data bases, well file data bases, artificial lift analysis, nodal analysis, etc.
- Team lead, supervisory and/or leadership experience.
