Production Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Production Planning & Supervision

1. Plan, organize, and supervise daily production activities related to structural fabrication, fit-up, welding, and assembly works.

2. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production plans in coordination with Production Manager.

3. Allocate manpower, materials, and equipment based on project priorities and target schedules.

4. Monitor production progress and ensure completion of works as per approved drawings and timelines.

5. Review production bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to avoid delays.

6. Ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining quality and safety standards.

7. Coordinate with supervisors and team leaders for smooth workflow across all sections.

Structural Fabrication, Fit-Up & Welding Supervision

1. Supervise structural steel fabrication, fit-up, and welding works.

2. Ensure dimensional accuracy, alignment, levelling, and tolerance compliance before welding.

3. Monitor welding activities (MIG / ARC / FCAW as applicable) as per approved WPS/PQR.

4. Ensure weld quality meets project requirements and company quality standards.

5. Coordinate with QC for fit-up inspections, weld inspections, and rectifications.

6. Reduce welding defects, rework, and fabrication errors through effective supervision

Diesel Tank & Mechanical Fabrication

1. Supervise diesel tank fabrication, assembly, fit-up, and welding activities.

2. Ensure proper plate cutting, rolling, alignment, shell fabrication, nozzle fitment, and structural supports.

3. Monitor welding sequence to minimize distortion and ensure leak-free fabrication.

4. Coordinate pressure testing, hydro testing, water testing, and leak testing activities.

5. Ensure punch points and test observations are cleared before final handover

Manpower Management & Productivity Control

1. Supervise welders, fabricators, fitters, helpers, grinders, and subcontract manpower.

2. Plan and deploy manpower based on production priorities and deadlines.

3. Monitor manpower attendance, overtime, absenteeism, and productivity.

4. Maintain workforce discipline and shop floor operational efficiency.

5. Evaluate worker performance regularly and recommend replacements or upgrades where required.

6. Support training and skill development of workers.

Material Planning & Store Coordination

1. Review BOM and drawings to ensure timely material availability.

2. Coordinate with stores and procurement for raw materials, consumables, and bought-out items.

3. Raise and monitor material requests as per production requirements.

4. Track material shortages and escalate critical delays to management.

5. Ensure proper storage, handling, and utilization of materials to reduce wastage

Quality Control & Inspection Coordination

1. Coordinate with QC for stage inspections, final inspections, and client witness activities.

2. Ensure all fabrication and assembly activities comply with approved drawings, ITP, and quality standards.

3. Support closure of NCRs, punch points, and inspection comments.

4. Ensure proper documentation and readiness for client inspections

Production Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation

1. Prepare daily production reports, manpower reports, and work completion updates.

2. Monitor production targets vs actual performance and report delays/variations.

3. Maintain project trackers, punch point trackers, and progress dashboards.

4. Report critical issues, delays, and material shortages to management promptly.

5. Participate in production review meetings and provide technical updates.

Required Experience & Skills

1. Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

2. Minimum 3-5 years of experience in structural fabrication / manufacturing industry.

3. Strong knowledge in:

a. Structural steel fabrication

b. Welding supervision

c. Diesel tank fabrication

d. Mechanical assembly and testing

e. Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, GA drawings, and BOM.

f. Good knowledge of welding procedures, fabrication tolerances, and inspection requirements.

g. Proficiency in MS Excel, reporting, and production tracking.

h. Strong leadership, planning, and coordination skills.

i. Familiarity with workshop safety, quality control, and client inspection procedure
