Production Line Mechanic

Position Summary

The Production Line Mechanic is responsible for the setup, adjustment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment used in the filling, packaging, and labeling of cosmetic and personal care products. This role ensures that all machinery operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with GMP, safety, and quality standards. The mechanic supports continuous production flow by performing routine and emergency maintenance, documenting repairs, and collaborating with Production and Quality teams to maintain optimal line performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust, and perform changeovers for production equipment, including fillers, cappers, labelers, coders, conveyors, and related machinery.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform repairs or part replacements using technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on all production machinery according to manufacturer guidelines and company SOPs.
  • Respond promptly to mechanical issues on the production floor to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor equipment performance and detect inefficiencies, abnormalities, or safety risks; take immediate corrective action.
  • Clean and maintain equipment in accordance with GMP, sanitation procedures, and safety rules.
  • Collaborate closely with Production, Quality, and Validation teams to ensure products meet specifications and operational standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment repairs, and part replacements.
  • Recommend equipment improvements, upgrades, or process enhancements to support efficiency and reliability.
  • Assist with training production staff on basic equipment operation and safety procedures.
  • Follow all company policies, safety guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform additional mechanical or production support duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in mechanical maintenance preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience repairing and maintaining manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, food, or personal care product manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot belts, gears, pumps, motors, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with GMP, OSHA safety standards, and sanitation requirements.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs independently and up to 50 lbs with assistance.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement or Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience working with multiple brands of filling, capping, and labeling machinery.
  • Basic understanding of electrical troubleshooting.

Tools, Equipment, and Software Used

  • Mechanical hand tools and power tools
  • Filling and packaging equipment (Accutek, Filamatic, Simplex, etc.)
  • Labeling equipment (Label-Aire, Pack Leader, Accutek)
  • Videojet inkjet coders
  • Conveyor systems, turntables, and pumps
  • Microsoft Outlook and basic Excel for communication and documentation
  • PPE including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection

Work Schedule & Shift Requirements

This position requires full schedule flexibility based on production needs.

Standard Workweek:
Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts

Shift Schedules May Include:

When operating two shifts:

  • First Shift: 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Second Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM

When operating a single shift:

  • Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

We also occasionally operate staggered shifts. Start and end times may vary depending on production demand and equipment needs.

Overtime: May be required during high production demand, equipment repairs, or emergency maintenance situations.

Weekends: As needed.

Important: Candidates must be available and willing to work any shift listed above as required. Schedule flexibility is a condition of employment for this role

  • Maintain safe and efficient operation of all production equipment.
  • Minimize equipment downtime through proactive troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Document all maintenance actions clearly and accurately.
  • Support production goals by ensuring equipment readiness and reliability.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and communication with cross-functional teams.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Work performed on the production floor with exposure to mechanical equipment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Regular lifting of up to 35 lbs; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs with assistance.
  • Required use of PPE including gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection (provided).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
