Production Manager

Production Manager

Role Summary / Purpose
The Production Manager is responsible for day-to-day management of repair and manufacturing operations within the aerospace repair shop, reporting to the Operations Director. This role leads frontline leaders to deliver safe, compliant, and efficient execution of work while ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and internal standards. The Production Manager drives performance across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Lean/Continuous Improvement, and People leadership, translating plant and operations strategies into effective execution on the shop floor.

Essential Responsibilities

Safety
  • Promote a safety-first culture ensuring compliance with aviation regulations, EH&S requirements, and company policies
  • Implement and sustain safety standard work including job safety analyses, PPE usage, LOTO, and safe equipment operation
  • Partner with EH&S in incident response and investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Conduct regular safety walks and hazard observations and address risks promptly
  • Ensure completion of required safety training for all team members
Quality
  • Ensure adherence to quality and regulatory requirements including OEM manuals, standard operating procedures, and inspection checkpoints
  • Support quality management system compliance and audit readiness in partnership with Quality
  • Drive right-first-time execution using structured problem-solving to reduce defects and rework
  • Monitor quality metrics and execute corrective actions to improve performance
  • Coach teams to own quality at the source and follow defined quality standards
Delivery
  • Own daily execution of the production schedule, supporting turnaround time and on-time delivery commitments
  • Plan and allocate resources including people, equipment, and materials to meet production requirements
  • Identify and resolve real-time constraints and escalate as appropriate
  • Lead daily tier meetings and use visual management to track schedule performance
  • Coordinate with planning, supply chain, engineering, and quality to ensure workflow continuity
Lean / Continuous Improvement
  • Apply lean principles at the shop-floor level to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Implement and sustain standard work for operators and frontline leaders
  • Lead and participate in kaizen and problem-solving activities that improve productivity and flow
  • Maintain visual management systems including boards, metrics, and 5S standards
  • Coach team members in lean fundamentals and basic problem-solving tools
Performance & People Leadership
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for supervisors, team leads, and production employees
  • Set clear expectations and performance goals aligned to operational targets
  • Manage staffing, schedules, attendance, overtime, and shift planning
  • Conduct performance management activities including coaching, development, and corrective action
  • Foster an inclusive and respectful team environment that encourages engagement and communication
  • Ensure training, certification, and cross-training requirements are met to support flexibility
Financial / Cost
  • Manage labor efficiency and overtime to balance cost and customer needs
  • Support cost control and productivity goals including scrap and rework reduction
  • Provide input to budgeting and forecasting for headcount and indirect costs
  • Execute cost and productivity improvement initiatives
  • Use operational metrics to understand cost drivers and identify improvement opportunities

Required Competencies

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or related technical field, or equivalent experience
Experience
  • 5–7+ years of experience in manufacturing or repair operations, preferably aerospace, MRO, or regulated industries
  • 3+ years in a people leadership role with responsibility for frontline teams
  • Experience in safety-critical and quality-regulated environments including audit exposure
  • Hands-on experience with lean and continuous improvement tools
  • Strong communication skills with ability to lead daily meetings and collaborate cross-functionally
  • Experience using production, planning, and quality systems such as ERP/MRP, MES, or QMS
Preferred
  • Advanced degree or formal technical or management certifications
  • Aerospace MRO or component, engine, or airframe repair experience
  • Lean Six Sigma or equivalent certification
  • Experience leading multi-shift or complex production environments
  • Demonstrated success leading teams through operational change
Physical Demands / Work Environment
  • Work performed in both office and aerospace repair shop environments
  • Regular presence on the shop floor including walking, standing, and climbing stairs
  • Exposure to industrial noise, equipment, chemicals, and materials consistent with aerospace manufacturing
  • Required use of PPE while on the shop floor
  • Occasional travel as required
