Job Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for the efficient intake, sorting, pricing, and distribution

of all donated goods. The primary goal is to maximize the value of every donation while meeting

daily "production-to-floor" quotas. This role requires a balance of operational discipline and the

ability to train a diverse team—including staff, volunteers, and sometimes individuals in

workforce development programs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operations & Throughput

 Daily Quotas: Establish and hit daily targets for the number of textile racks and "hard goods"

(housewares/furniture) processed and sent to the sales floor.

 Workflow Optimization: Design and maintain a "lean" processing line—ensuring items move

from the loading dock to the sales floor with minimal handling.

 Inventory Rotation: Manage the "pull and rotate" schedule to ensure old inventory is cleared

(salvaged) to make room for fresh goods.

2. Quality Control & Pricing

 Value Assessment: Train staff to identify high-value brands, vintage items, or collectibles to

ensure they are priced for maximum revenue (or sent to e-commerce/auction).

 Standardization: Maintain a consistent pricing guide so that customers see uniform pricing

across the store.

 Salvage Management: Oversee the "last-chance" or recycling stream for items that do not

meet sales floor standards (e.g., textile recycling, scrap metal).

3. Safety & Compliance

 Facility Safety: Maintain a clean, hazard-free warehouse. Ensure proper use of equipment

(balers, forklifts, rolling racks).

 Loss Prevention: Implement systems to prevent "back-door" theft and ensure all processed

items are accounted for.

 Hazardous Materials: Ensure proper disposal of non-acceptable donations (e.g., chemicals,

broken CRTs, recalled baby gear).

4. People Leadership

 Trauma-Informed Management: Many thrift employees or volunteers may come from

backgrounds of adversity; the manager must lead with empathy and clear boundaries.

 Training: Onboard new hires on the "Good, Better, Best" sorting criteria.

Required Skills & Qualifications

 Experience: 2+ years in warehouse management, high-volume retail processing, or logistics.

 Analytical Skills: Ability to track KPIs (Items Per Hour, Revenue Per Rack, etc.).

 Physical Ability: Must be able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

 Technical Savvy: Proficiency in inventory software or POS reporting.

Performance Metrics (KPIs)

A successful manager in this role will be judged on:

1. Production Volume: Did we process X number of items today?

2. Average Unit Price: Is the team pricing accurately to balance "sell-through" with "revenue"?

3. Safety Record: Zero accidents on the production floor.

4. Volunteer/Staff Retention: Maintaining a positive, productive culture.
