Production Manager – Paper Bags Manufacturing

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Production Manager – Paper Bags Manufacturing to lead end-to-end production operations in a paper bag manufacturing facility. The role is responsible for safety, quality, delivery, cost control, and continuous improvement across printing, converting, gluing, and finishing operations. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and hands-on experience in paper bag manufacturing and paper-based packaging.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all production activities across paper bag manufacturing operations, ensuring a safe, efficient, and quality-driven work environment.
  • Own execution of production plans in coordination with Planning, Sales, and Supply Chain teams to ensure on-time and in-full (OTIF) delivery of customer orders.
  • Drive Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement across all paper bag machines, targeting and sustaining performance above 85%.
  • Establish and standardize Standard Operating Conditions (SOCs) for various paper bag types, sizes, paper grammages, handle types, and printing requirements.
  • Control manufacturing costs by maintaining scrap and rejection levels below 5%, with strong focus on paper, ink, glue, and handle consumption.
  • Ensure accurate tracking and reconciliation of Work in Progress (WIP) at all production stages, with weekly reporting to senior management.
  • Oversee quality of all process consumables (kraft paper, ink, glue, cartons, handles) and coordinate with Quality and Procurement teams to resolve supplier issues.
  • Monitor and analyze glue and ink consumption mileage and review bi-monthly usage reports to drive cost optimization.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of daily, weekly, and monthly production reports, efficiency dashboards, and downtime analysis.
  • Maintain plant housekeeping, machine conditions, and operational discipline in compliance with ISO, BRC, FSC, and food-grade packaging requirements where applicable.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve SOPs for all production processes, covering safety, quality, environmental, and operational standards.
  • Lead training, competency development, and succession planning for supervisors, operators, and technicians. Ensure Skill Matrix is maintained and reviewed quarterly.
  • Implement robust process controls, check sheets, and audits aligned with the SMART principle and continuous improvement practices.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance to ensure high machine uptime and preventive maintenance effectiveness.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, waste reduction, quality improvement, and safety performance.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by senior management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Printing Technology, Packaging, or a related discipline preferred.
  • 7–12 years of experience in paper bag manufacturing or paper-based packaging, with at least 3–5 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of kraft paper, flexographic printing, bag forming, gluing systems, and converting operations.
  • Proven experience in OEE improvement, scrap reduction, and production cost control.
  • Working knowledge of ISO, BRC, FSC, and quality management systems.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, analytical, and cross-functional communication skills.
