Position Summary:
The Production planning manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the production scheduling process to ensure efficient and effective use of resources and timely delivery of products. This role has ownership of the production work orders, production schedule and timelines, while coordinating with various departments to develop and implement a comprehensive production schedule that aligns with customer demand and inventory policies. This role may be required to work with customers directly on scheduling related topics as well as act as the scheduling subject matter expert for the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Create daily, weekly, and at times monthly, production schedules to optimize resource allocation and efficiency using inputs such as customer orders, MRP, customer forecasts, equipment and labor constraints, capacity plans, and historical production.
- Track production progress against the schedule, identifying potential delays and taking corrective actions to achieve commitments to the company and customers.
- Inform relevant stakeholders, including production, customer service, quality, et al, about any schedule or priority changes ensuring all teams are informed and aligned.
- Coordinate with the materials and quality teams to ensure timely availability of raw materials and components needed for production.
- Identify and resolve production issues that could impact delivery timelines, such as equipment breakdowns, quality concerns, or labor shortages.
- Utilize production data to analyze trends, identify areas for improvement, and refine scheduling strategies.
- Generate regular reports on production status, key performance indicators (KPIs), and potential risks to management.
- Support inventory management by scheduling production based on stock levels
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards in production scheduling.
- Prepare and present detailed production performance reports for senior management.
- Develop contingency plans for potential production disruptions.
- Act as the key liaison for scheduling-related audits and assessments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, engineering, business or related field (Preferred)
- 2-3 years in production scheduling of a high SKU count manufacturing environment (Preferred)
- 2-3 years make to Order experience (Preferred)
- 2-3 years contract Manufacturing experience (Preferred)
- 2+ years working in a distribution or forward logistics operation.
- Intensive background in Inventory Control Management
- SAP knowledge is a plus
