Production Planning Specialist - 1st Shift (Reports to Asst. Manager of Production Control)

SUMMARY:

Develop, implement, and manage production planning strategies to meet production targets and customer demands. Ensures the timely execution of customer projects and ensures shipment alignment. Analyze production schedules, capacity constraints, and resource availability to optimize production efficiency.

The typical role of production planners will heavily involve managing demands related to deadlines and production constraints. Strong communication skills, analytical ability, and the capacity to make quick decisions and adapt to changing situations are essential for this position. They should also be computer proficient and capable of using project management software to create schedules and reports.

  • Working knowledge of EDI, Kanban and ASN systems are a standard function, along with process management experience and industry knowledge.
  • Kanban is an inventory control system used in just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing to track production and to order new shipments of parts and materials. Kanban uses visual cues to prompt the action needed to keep a process flowing. Candidate must have strong Kanban knowledge and able to control kanban system.
  • ·EDI (which stands for electronic data interchange), is the inter-company communication of business documents in a standard format. The simple definition of EDI is that it is a standard electronic format that replaces paper-based documents such as purchase orders or invoices. Candidate must have a full understanding of EDI deadlines and procedures.

Responsibilities include planning and coordinating the resources and activities needed to produce quality products for our customers on time. The position also involves establishing systems, procedures, and standards to continually exceed customer expectations by identifying necessary improvements that ensure a high level of capability and maximize productivity and efficiency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Leads in the administration of controls in PC Operations.
  • Drives continuous improvement of scheduling and sequencing processes.
  • ·Establishes and monitors metrics for system performance management.
  • ·Prioritizes and sequences work, executing work plans and implementing controls.
  • Coordinates and expedites the flow of work and materials.
  • ·Develop techniques for establishing and controlling scheduling processes.
  • Develops and executes continuous improvement plans for the control and handling of inventories.
  • · Plans and coordinates material flow from internal and external supplies to and from facility
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Creating and controlling production schedules, and monitoring scheduling timelines.
  • Ordering materials, coordinating with material requirements, and managing inventory levels.
  • Managing equipment availability and determining what equipment is needed for production.
  • Managing employees and determining how many people are needed for production.
  • Monitoring the production process for problems and analyzing production delays.
  • Advising management of the status of work, and communicating with sales and customer service teams.
  • Ensuring finished product quality and compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The ability to sit and work on a computer as needed. While performing job duties, the employee is often required to sit, talk, see, and hear.

Administration is a typical office environment with a moderate noise level; however, this position requires the employee to visit the manufacturing area, which has high noise levels that necessitate hearing protection and PPE.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. However, we prefer the following.

  • Able to work rotating shifts.
  • Recent automotive management systems experience.
  • Three years of direct experience in production control.
  • Require proficiency with Microsoft Office computer applications including (Excel, Word, and Access).
  • Toyota automotive supplier experience preferred.
  • Metal stamping experience.
  • Familiarity with 5S activity.
