Production Supervisor - CDFS

Company Description

Standard Steel is a leading manufacturer of forged steel wheels and axles for freight railcars, locomotives and passenger railcars. It is the only producer of forged steel wheels for railcars and locomotives in North America. Customers include major Class I railroads in North America, freight railcar builders, railcar and locomotive maintenance shops, the Amtrak national railroad, locomotive builders and regional transit authorities.

Standard Steel, LLC, and its affiliated companies were purchased by Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. and Sumitomo Corporation in 2011, but the existing facility has been producing forgings since 1795. In 2012, Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. merged with Nippon Steel Corporation to become Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, the majority owner of Standard Steel.

Standard Steel's manufacturing plant is located at 500 North Walnut Street in Burnham, Pennsylvania.

Job Description

The Closed Die Forge Shop (CDFS) Supervisor directs, guides, trains, and checks the work of an assigned group of Team Members in the manufacture of railroad wheels. This position supervises and directs production to meet production schedules, and maintains equipment and manpower in the Department to meet work schedules. The position requires current knowledge in operations, forging, quality, safety, and related railroad specifications.

The CDFS Supervisor directs all related personnel actions for production employees, and maintains positive employee and management relations within the guidelines of company policy. This position detects and reports improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions, and maintains necessary records. Additionally, the CDFS Supervisor is responsible for departmental adherence to standards of safety, quality, housekeeping, and attendance in compliance with company policies, governmental regulations and existing labor agreements. The CDFS Supervisor reports to the CDFS Superintendent.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and direct an assigned group of Team Members.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable safety, quality, industry, and governmental policies.
  • Maintains necessary records.
  • Ensures employee compliance with applicable Company policies.
  • Maintains current knowledge.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Supervisory / management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and motivational skills.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts including overtime, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office or similar applications.
