The production supervisor trainee is an entry-level leadership position designed for individuals beginning their management career in a manufacturing environment. This role follows a structured development process lasting a minimum of six months, during which the trainee will gain hands-on experience with all machines and departments across the production floor. Throughout this period, the trainee will also build strong working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
The production supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring customer satisfaction by maintaining flexibility, productivity, and attention to detail. Employees in this position are expected to demonstrate pride in workmanship, integrity, and a strong work ethic.
This role is responsible for supervising shop employees in a manufacturing and assembly environment. Key responsibilities include planning and assigning work, implementing company policies and procedures, and recommending improvements to production methods, equipment, operating processes, and workplace conditions.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
1. Understand and be able to operate all equipment and troubleshooting.
2. Interpret and follow the production schedule to ensure timely completion of work; actively participate in production and company meetings.
3. Responsible for ensuring the inventory management system is being utilized correctly and accurately.
4. Ensuring effective employee relations; providing employee coaching and development; discipline, resolving employee issues through problem resolution
5. Balancing quality, productivity, cost, safety, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas; working to continuously improve in all areas
6. Managing departmental performance measures, including visual controls, and providing regular progress reports
7. Monitor systematic key performance indicators (KPI s) and help with continuous improvement on said findings
8. Record daily numbers and send updated report throughout the day and end of shift
9. Responsible for ensuring company core values.
10. Responsible for ensuring all employees are adhering to PPE requirements.
11. Tracking absenteeism
12. Conduct performance evaluations.
13. Conduct training on for all employees as a on going process.
14. Performing all other duties as assigned
15. Ability and agreement to follow On-Call Procedure.
Qualifications and/or Skills required
· Strong Mechanical Aptitude and Spatial Relations.
· High School Diploma or GED equivalent, associate’s degree or higher preferred. (Technical, preferred)
· Experience in 5S and Lean Processes.
· Three years working in a manufacturing environment required
· Two years in a management role required
· Experience operating machinery in a manufacturing environment—such as stamping presses, press brakes, lasers, and secondary operations—is required, with prior experience in a metal manufacturing facility preferred.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills with strong team-building skills
· Ability to understand and use our computer applications and data collection and recording (Excel,SAP, Email, etc.)
· A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others
· Ability to think ahead and plan over a 30-day time span and prepare action plans to achieve results
· Quality orientation and attention to detail
· An ability to manage multiple priorities

Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
During the performance of his/her work duties, the incumbent will regularly lift to 50 pounds and will frequently lift up to 25 pounds, such as removing materials from shipping containers.

The employee works in a manufacturing environment and is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and work in high places. He/she is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is loud.

Federal Tool & Engineering is an alcohol and drug free workplace. All temporary and permanent new hires are subject to both physical and drug testing. Typical work hours may vary and the potential for overtime is possible and may be mandatory. Due to production requirements you may be required to work flexible hours or work on a different shift. Additionally, work requirements will vary and you must be prepared to perform a variety of tasks as needed to service the needs of our customers.
