Position Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the production plant’s output, personnel, and on-time delivery (OTD). This role leads and directs managers and supervisors across multiple departments to ensure sustainable, scalable, and profitable operations. Responsibilities include developing processes and procedures, managing personnel, and utilizing continuous improvement methodologies within a medium-sized electro-mechanical assembly environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Personnel Management

  • Promote and enforce safe work practices across all operational areas.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Lead by example and provide hands-on support when necessary.
  • Build and develop strong teams through mentoring and coaching.
  • Participate in employee selection, retention, and disciplinary processes.
  • Develop operational structure, recommend new positions, and promote internal growth where appropriate.
  • Invest in employee development through training, guidance, and skill-building opportunities.

Production Management

  • Adapt to changing operational requirements, including material shortages, quality issues, and personnel availability.
  • Oversee and take ownership of daily production output, ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Identify production and quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Optimize workforce utilization and balance production lines.
  • Maintain transparency and accuracy of all data within the ERP system.
  • Adjust labor requirements based on plant workload and company procedures.
  • Improve efficiency through automation, Lean principles, and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Interview and approve Leads, Supervisors, and Managers within the Operations Department.
  • Coordinate workflow across departments to prevent bottlenecks and maintain production flow.
  • Understand product models and provide technical leadership in problem-solving.
  • Assist the Quality Manager with root cause analysis (RCA) and solution implementation.

Plant Operations

  • Assist the Site Manager with facility management, modifications, and improvements.
  • Lead or support production layout changes to meet site goals.
  • Develop strong operational interfaces with Warehouse, Planning, Finance, and other departments.
  • Maintain oversight of production material integrity and accountability.
  • Evaluate current and future site capacity and production volume needs.
  • Support environmentally sustainable practices including repurposing, recycling, and waste reduction.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Safety performance and compliance.
  • Quality of processes and finished products, including:
    • First Pass Yield
    • Quality yield and customer-related rejections
  • On-time delivery and execution of the production plan.
  • Daily/weekly/monthly production targets met.
  • Inventory accuracy and reliability, including proper floor count maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Production Management, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field; or
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience overseeing electrical/mechanical manufacturing operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in electromechanical manufacturing and SMT (Surface Mount Technology) assembly.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing manufacturing teams.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet production and OTD requirements.
  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methods.
  • Effective conflict-resolution skills with the ability to maintain team cohesion.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility as needed.
  • Ability to occasionally lift materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures.
