Professional Branch Manager (Barboursville)

Cabell County Public Library is currently seeking applicants for a Professional Branch Manager for our Barboursville Branch.

This position is ideal for a librarian with a Master’s degree in Library Science and at least three years of leadership experience in public libraries. The Branch Manager oversees daily operations, supervises staff and volunteers, supports collection development, and plans programming for both youth and adults. The role also involves working closely with local organizations and serving as a representative of the library within the community.

The position is based in Barboursville, a small village with a strong sense of community, local amenities, and a well loved public park.

Candidates should have strong communication and organizational skills, experience working with the public, and the ability to manage and support a team. A Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program is required.

Job Title: Branch Manager

Pay Grade: $52,000.00 - 76,960.00

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SUMMARY: This is a mid-level supervisory position, whose primary areas of responsibility include the direction of full-time employees, part-time employees, and volunteers in providing library materials and services to all ages within the immediate community; assistance of users in accessing fiction and non-fiction collections; managing collection development by assisting with selection of books and other new materials; active promotion and representation of the branch library to community groups, leaders, and interest; and the overseeing the implementation of juvenile/adult programming.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

1. To perform multifaceted administrative tasks to maintain cost-efficient and lawful operation of the assigned branch in accordance with organizational policy and procedure.

a. Supervises branch staff and volunteers, including delegation of work assignments, orientation/training, scheduling of coverage for service areas, etc.

b. Assists administration in performance appraisal of branch staff.

c. Prepares or verifies that reports/requests (including time sheets, sick/annual leave reports, petty cash expenditures, income reports, monthly statistical reports, supply requisitions) are completed in an accurate and timely manner.

2. To enhance service and encourage reading among users through regular programming.

a. Develops and implements annual branch programming plan of story hours, puppetry, performing arts appearances, crafts, books discussions, summer reading achievement, book week promotions, public interest discussions, etc.

b. Encourages community use of the library meeting room and display areas, and sees that staff maintains a booking schedule.

3. To promote the library and its services to the community.

a. Generates publicity for programs and services.

b. Fosters strong community relations with local officials and leaders; speaks to clubs and civic groups; and arranges for class/group tours.

c. Solicits active community support by encouraging gifts, in-kind contributions, and volunteerism.

d. Participates in meetings, luncheons, fundraising requests, special events, etc. serving as the public face of the library to the community.

e. Maintain the webpage.

4. To assist the public in their use of the library, increase quality of service, and optimize patron satisfaction through direct public relations and assistance.

5. To help maintain branch location and materials collection for ease of access and use.

a. Directs branch custodian in keeping building and grounds clean and attractive. As well as monitors maintenance needs of the branch and requests repairs, replacements, and improvements as needed.

b. Reviews circulations patterns, patron requests and selection lists, meets with sales representatives, and provides recommendations concerning books and materials for branch acquisitions.

c. Shelves books and other materials or read shelves to ensure accuracy.

6. To perform circulation and basic catalogue functions, using SIRSI while maintaining confidentiality of library user records.

a. Enter paperback books into the on-line catalog and performs basic processing (taping and labeling) on each one

b. Weeds outdated and deteriorating books from the collection.

c. Checks-out and checks-in materials, places holds and loans against books as requested, etc.

d. Processes library card applications and enters user data.

e. Calculates and collects fines.

7. To perform other reasonable related duties (with appropriate accommodation if necessary) as assigned by immediate supervisor and other administration as required.

a. Assists with overseeing affiliate libraries as assigned, i.e. book selection, AV selection, evaluations, etc.

REQUIREMENTS: 3 - 4 years of library leadership experience.

Ability to direct workforce.

Good communication, organizational, and computer skills.

Familiarity with standard juvenile book titles, popular and adult fiction, and basic reference sources.

EDUCATION: Masters of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited program required.

Pay: $52,000.00 - $76,960.00 per year
