Howdy! Snuggle n' Stride is a trans-owned dog walking and pet sitting business committed to using force-free/fear-free methods of handling. We're hiring a Professional Dog Walker to provide thoughtful, reliable, one-on-one dog walking services throughout Seattle.
We are a force-free, relationship-centered pet care company that prioritizes emotional wellbeing, safety, and individualized care for every dog we work with. We’re looking for someone dependable, communicative, observant, and genuinely passionate about working with animals.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys independent work, spending time outdoors, and building trusting relationships with both dogs and their humans.
This job requires a car, and mileage will be reimbursed.
Responsibilities
- Provide safe, attentive, one-on-one dog walks
- Follow individualized care instructions and routines for each dog
- Read canine body language and respond appropriately to stress or overstimulation
- Navigate Seattle neighborhoods safely in all weather conditions
- Maintain leash safety and environmental awareness during walks
- Write clear, professional visit updates after each service
- Communicate proactively about concerns, behavioral changes, or incidents
- Maintain professionalism in client homes and public spaces
Handling Philosophy
Snuggle n’ Stride uses exclusively force-free, fear-free, and positive reinforcement-based handling methods.
Employees are expected to:
- Avoid punishment-based handling techniques
- Respect dogs’ comfort levels and body language
- Create space from unfamiliar dogs and people during walks when appropriate
- Prioritize emotional safety alongside physical safety
Requirements
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
- Reliable smartphone access for scheduling and visit notes
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Comfortable walking multiple miles daily in varying weather conditions
- Ability to safely handle dogs of varying sizes and energy levels
- Strong communication skills and reliability
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience with dogs, animals, customer service, childcare, or caregiving
- Understanding of canine body language and behavior
- Experience with reactive, anxious, fearful, or sensitive dogs
- Interest in force-free or fear-free handling approaches
- Experience administering medications is a plus
