Adult Classes (ESOL, Spanish, Computer)

STATUS: Part Time, Salaried

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of the EAABF Director and Lead Pastor who are part of the EAABF Board, the Bridges Program Manager will:

· Oversee the Hybrid English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program

· Oversee the Computer class program and classroom.

· Oversee the Spanish language classes

· Identify additional needed adult classes as they arise

HOURS: flexible with onsite presence in specific moments (including accessibility to English/Computer class students Tuesday and Friday morning, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings)

REPORTING TO: EAABF Director and Epworth Lead Pastor via minimum bi-monthly meetings.

Vision and Teambuilding

· Provide inputs to the EAABF Director and EUMC Lead pastor regarding vision for the program as set by the EAABF Board.

· Set the tone of the program by putting forward the vision of the program to teachers, volunteers/staff, and students.

· Intentionally support a sense of team and collaboration among teachers, including special teacher events and opportunities.

Program Policy, Procedure, and Curriculum

· Work with EAABF Director and EUMC Lead pastor to set program calendar and schedule, program policy and procedure for the ESOL and Computer classes. This includes fall, winter, spring and summer classes.

· Currently summer classes have been managed by Mujer Fuerza and Coraje with funding granted to EAABF. Summer classes are conversational only and for a shorter period. The Bridges manager is responsible for working with community partners to facilitate this.

· Publish and interpret policy to students and teachers, once verified by EAABF board.

· Select Curriculum to be used for ESOL and Computer classes, to be verified by EAABF board and include teacher input.

· Regularly assess student progress with regard to policy, procedure, and curriculum and make recommendations for adjustments accordingly.

Manage Attendance Policy

  • Create and manage student attendance lists and ensure their regular usage.
  • Enforce program attendance policy.
  • Plan and lead End-of-Year graduation ceremony, including the preparation of student certificates and awards based upon attendance data.

Building Use and Hybrid Support

  • Coordinate Building use and sharing in conjunction with the EAABF Director, Lead Pastor and Office Admin/Building Use Coordinator:

o Select classroom spaces to be used each semester.

o Ensure ESOL/Computer class space needs are on the EUMC building use calendar and executive calendar.

o Set class limits appropriate to space and remote abilities.

o Coordinate class calendar and timings to harmonize with other EUMC needs.

o Make sure classes are set with tables, white/boards when teachers arrive.

o At the end of class, make sure rooms are back to their regular order (This is especially important when using Epworth Pre-School rooms).

  • Maintain and support strong hybrid learning environments and practices.

o Ensure needed hybrid materials are available in each classroom (Wifi, computers, TV screens etc)

o Continue to refine hybrid teaching practices, including orienting teachers to use of hybrid learning platforms and processes.

Oversight of MCAEL grant for ESOL Program (in collaboration with AABF Grant writer, if available)

  • Draft and submit FY grant application.
  • Keep EAABF Director and Lead Pastor abreast of MCAEL needs, grant requirements, and process.
  • Attend the Montgomery Coalition for Adults English Literacy (MCAEL) meetings and grant workshops.
  • Serve as MCAEL program liaison.
  • Compile program data for MCAEL grant reporting purposes.
  • Prepare and provide midyear and final reports to MCAEL.
  • Develop and implement tools to assess student progress (learner gain) throughout the year.
  • Maintain records of MCAEL training participation.

Student Registration

  • Manage student registration including:
  • Development and use of online student registration form, placement test(s).
  • Partner with website administrator to develop and update forms.
  • Assign students to appropriate classes using form data.
  • Plan and coordinate in-person registration events.
  • Develop student rosters for instructor/classroom use
  • Communicate with prospective students throughout the registration process.
  • Manage program waitlist.
  • Manage “EAABF Registrar” inbox.

Budget, Materials and Supplies

  • Manage the budget for ESOL/Computer program
  • Order teacher and student textbooks.
  • Distribute textbooks and manage funds received.
  • Order teaching materials and supplies.
  • Work with the Computer Class tech advisor and Computer class teacher to understand the tech needs of the computer lab, advocating for equipment, upgrades and support as needed.

Hospitality

  • Create a welcoming environment for students, volunteers/staff, and instructors.
  • Work with Lead pastor and EAABF Director to find support for:

o Building opening/room set-up on days of in-person classes (Tu/W PM, Tu/F AM)

o Set-up/clean-up coffee and snacks for in-person classes.

Staff Management

  • Work with EUMC Lead Pastor, EAABF Director and SPRC to
  • post positions,
  • interview and hire volunteer and paid ESOL teachers as part of SPRC team
  • Provide day to day supervision to ESOL/computer instructors.
  • Coordinate substitutes.
  • Work with EAABF Director, Lead Pastor and SPRC lead to
  • on-board new instructors, including on-site training, building access,
  • complete new-hire forms and Safe Sanctuary training/paperwork.
  • Offer monthly teacher meetings to receive input from instructors and to provide instructors with program-wide news and updates.
  • Submit timesheets for teaching staff to EAABF Director for timely processing by EUMC bookkeeper.
  • Coordinate with Associate pastor Tammi Brantley, who is overseeing childcare programs.

Community Connection/Collaboration with Other Ministry Areas

  • Remain informed of academic enrichment and children’s programs offered during ESOL and Computer classes. This includes being aware of and supporting, without being responsible for, their work with:
  • Tutoring
  • Childcare
  • Curriculum to be used | Activities to be done
  • Connections to larger EUMC Family Discipleship
  • Policies around child/safety (incident reports, safe sanctuary)
  • Provision of snacks

· Remain informed of other events within the life of the church and actively aide in communication of these events to the ESOL and Computer Students.

  • Collaborate with EUMC Send out Ministries when asked
  • Select and communicate to students on the food distribution list. (This includes identifying which families have need and communicating to ensure they show up)
  • Select and communicate to ESOL/Computer students who will benefit from
  • Coats

  • Christmas
  • Thanksgiving

Meeting and Connections

· Bimonthly supervision meetings with EAABF Director and EUMC Lead Pastor

· Monthly Send out Meetings (via Zoom)

· EAABF staff meetings as called by the executive director

· Teacher meetings (as called)

Pay: $13,000.00 per year
