About Us: Meals on Wheels Orange County is the largest nonprofit provider of nutrition and supportive services for at-risk older adults in Central and North Orange County. Our mission is to combat hunger and loneliness among older adults through nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks and to support families through day services. Annually, we deliver nearly 2 million meals to 20,000 at-risk older adults.

Location: Buena Park, CA

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Salary Range: $70,000 - $75,000 annually (Salary will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience)

JOB SUMMARY: This is a highly responsible position that manages the daily operations of the Buena Park Adult Day Care Program in compliance with Title XXII regulations. The Program Manger is responsible for ensuring a cost-effective, viable program for elderly participants needing supervision; operates and maintains the program within budget; and ensures overall program compliance with federal and state procedures and policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates the performance of all subordinate staff and volunteers assigned to the Program.
  • Selects, assigns, directs, and evaluates the performance of department staff.
  • Works closely with Activity Coordinator to ensure that the planning, implementing, leading and directing of program activities is accomplished to provide relevant educational, recreational and social activities for social day care participants.
  • Maintains required records and reports in compliance with department, agency, local, state and federal requirements.
  • Responsible for evaluation of current and prospective participant ADL’s, level of supervision/care necessary, and appropriateness for the senior day care program.
  • Responsible for identifying participant/caretaker needs for supportive services and providing appropriate linkages to other community services (formal or informal) involved in delivery of human services.
  • Counsels elderly clients and their families to encourage positive family environment and supportive relationships, as necessary; plans appropriate program activities to encourage family support.
  • Responsible for day-to-day care and management of participants.
  • Assists with developing/planning transportation for participants.
  • Responsible for a variety of records relative to personnel, expenses, participant attendance, donations, staff/volunteer and outreach efforts; prepare accurate and timely reports as required.
  • Maintains program manual.
  • Actively participates in fundraising efforts; seek community donations and financial assistance as necessary to augment federal funding and participant donations.
  • Establishes effective, viable working relationships with community programs and agencies.
  • Provides ongoing outreach efforts to surrounding community to educate, inform, and recruit participants.
  • Ensures program staff and volunteers practice safe operating procedures at all times and takes necessary steps to help ensure a safe work environment.
  • Responsible for meeting departmental goals and key metrics as approved by Senior Management.
  • Attends and participates in all mandatory training sessions and meetings (including CPR and First Aid training) as prescribed by state regulations.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field, Nursing, Recreation or related field required.
  • At least two years’ supervisory (staff and volunteers) or administrative experience required.
  • A combination of related experience and education may be substituted for a degree.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or threshold language.
  • Must pass a physical examination and obtain a tuberculosis clearance.
  • Prior experience working with frail or elderly persons preferred.
  • Excellent communication, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates a “can-do” spirit, a sense of optimism, and commitment.
  • Good problem-solving skills and critical thinking skills required.
  • Ability to identify client/patient and family needs and connect client to appropriate resources.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
