Employment Tenure: Temporary: contracts are generally ~ 6 months with a maximum of 125 days worked per calendar year.

Temporary Employment:

The Consulate General of Canada periodically hires temporary employees for casual, short-term employment. Temporary employees are part of the Locally Engaged Staff (LES). Temporary employees may be hired on a short-term basis to replace employees on leave, to help with excessive workloads, or to meet unforeseen, immediate and temporary operational requirements. Temporary employees may not work more than one hundred and twenty-five (125) days in a calendar year.

Conditions of employment (must be met):

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

· Valid work authorization: ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.

· Security screening: obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.

Please note that the Consulate General of Canada in Los Angeles does not sponsor work authorizations directly or indirectly.

Operational Requirements:

Administrative Support Positions:

· Fluency in English required (oral, reading and writing).

· Most administrative support positions are on a full-time (FT) basis.

· Normal full-time hours of work for temporary employment are in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Employment for Locally Engaged Staff (LES) in the United States, which are 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday (7.5 hours daily with core hours between 9-3 pm).

· Part-time hours may be available depending on operational needs (e.g. 2-4 days per week or fewer than 7.5 hours per day).

· Positions generally require a commitment from a few weeks to a few months. The hiring manager provides details on the weekly time commitment as well as the duration of the contract.

IRCC Position Details:

· Provide clerical support services including entering and validating information in departmental online systems.

· Provide routine information and assistance to internal and external clients to facilitate their compliance with requirements, or their understating of application processes.

· Review applications and documents including quality assurance checks, with attention to detail. Processing fee payments and preparing documents for fee refunds.

· Maintain filing systems, using internal systems, and accessing departmental websites to search or track information.

· Utilize office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, and specialized printers.

· Ability to sit for long periods, to bend and lift to place/retrieve files and to walk delivery materials to points within the section or mission.

· Ability to communicate in French is considered an asset.
