Position Summary:
The Programming Designer will be responsible for preparing, optimizing, and executing CNC programs for laser cutting machines and CNC press brakes (bending machines) to manufacture precision metal sheet products. The role involves creating accurate 2D/3D designs, nesting layouts, and bend sequences while ensuring quality, productivity, and efficient material utilization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Programming & Design
- Develop CNC programs for laser cutting and bending machines based on engineering drawings and product requirements.
- Create and modify 2D/3D CAD drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software.
- Optimize nesting programs to maximize material utilization and reduce waste.
- Define bending sequences and tool setups for CNC press brakes.
2. Machine Operation Support
- Provide programs and instructions to machine operators and assist in machine setup when required.
- Troubleshoot programming or machine-related issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure programs comply with machine specifications, tooling, and safety standards.
3. Quality & Efficiency
- Verify part dimensions against engineering drawings before release to production.
- Ensure finished products meet client requirements and quality standards.
- Continuously improve programming processes to reduce cycle time and errors.
4. Documentation & Coordination
- Maintain program records, drawings, and revision histories.
- Coordinate with production, engineering, and quality departments to meet delivery deadlines.
- Support R&D and prototyping of new sheet metal products.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in CNC programming for laser cutting and bending machines.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, BySoft, Lantek, or equivalent).
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes, tolerances, and materials.
- Strong understanding of tooling, bend allowances, and flat pattern developments.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
