Trauma-Informed Policing Initiative Project Coordinator

Tri-County SPEAKS Sexual Assault Center (TCS), the Charleston, South Carolina metropolitan area’s rape crisis center, seeks a Program Coordinator to lead the Trauma Informed Policing (TIP) Initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the City of Charleston Police Department, to coordinate and help implement training to improve the law enforcement response to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. This initiative was awarded through the Abby Honold Grant Program, funded by the Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women.

The City of Charleston Police Department is one of six law enforcement jurisdictions in the United States selected for this first round of grants. The goal is to train officers to conduct trauma-informed and victim-centered investigations, with the goal of incorporating techniques designed to prevent re-traumatization of the victim and to increase communication between victims and law enforcement as well as stakeholders in a coordinated community response.

The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the training in collaboration with the Charleston Police Department and will take the lead on:

· Managing the training, including logistical considerations, the preparation of the training material, and scheduling;

· Participating in the training as a subject matter expert on crime victimization;

· Serving as the liaison to national, state, and local leaders and stakeholders;

· Coordinating biweekly meetings with the training team to ensure that the project is on track and on budget;

· Writing reports in compliance with Federal grant requirements;

· Managing outreach in regard to the training in the Tri-County area;

· Working with community advocacy groups, law enforcement jurisdictions, public safety administrators, survivors, and other stakeholders to assess the law enforcement ecosystem and identify points of intervention;

· Overseeing the selection, implementation, and assessment of digital learning tools:

· Coordinating qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the initiative:

· Drafting reports in compliance with federal grant requirements and circulating them among the team for review;

· Representing the TIP Initiative at events; and

· In partnership with CPD, coordinating web page development and social media engagement.

The Project Coordinator will report to the Executive Director of Tri-County SPEAKS. There is potential for a hybrid working arrangement to accommodate qualified individuals living outside the Charleston area.

Requirements and Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, or a related field

· Three-to-five years working in a law enforcement, victim services, or court environment

· Strong oral and written communications

· Ability to communicate effectively with all project stakeholders with a special emphasis on law enforcement personnel

· Experience in public speaking and training, or adult education

· Experience preparing reports

· Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities; project management experience a plus

· Proficient use of computers and technology

· Friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude

· Background working with trauma survivors is preferred.

Pay: $45,000.00 per year
