Smyth Industries Engineering Division is currently searching for an individual with Water Infrastructure Industry experience as a Project Engineer to help enhance our current team. We provide full-service electrical, civil, manufacturing, engineering and general contracting services for the water and reclamation industry.

In your job, you will have the ability to make a difference in the water and reclamation industry by:
Scope: Under supervision, perform planning, supervising, designing, and maintaining construction projects for the water and reclamation industry. Assist our client engineers, rehabilitate, manufacture and construct water distribution and treatment infrastructure. Support and adhere to the Smyth Industries Policies and Procedures, Safety Compliance, and Values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Exhibit technical knowledge and experience in the principles and practices of civil engineering and engineering related to water and wastewater planning and design.
- Provide engineering project management on a variety of projects simultaneously, from conception through construction, which involves developing project schedules, design, monitoring project progress and budget, obtaining necessary permits, preparing, and maintaining project files, monitoring quality of projects and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Provide effective project communication, both orally and in writing, and be able to represent the company in meetings and presentations to municipal and private industry clients, other governmental agencies, utilities, and the public.
- Ability thrives in a team environment that encourages cooperation, communication, and mutual sharing of risk, responsibility, and reward, while developing and directing others on engineering projects.
- Provide technical and consulting services in support of planning, studies, analysis, design, and construction of water/wastewater treatment and distribution systems, which may include pump/lift stations, well sites, water and sewer lines, treatment systems, and storage reservoirs.
- Oversee the technical work products of staff engineers performing technical tasks to support water/wastewater projects.
- Coordinate with client and project team to develop project proposals/work plans and budgets.
- Manage scope, budget, deliverables, and schedule of multiple, concurrent projects and negotiate with clients.
- Meet financial objectives. Identify potential project issues and work with the leadership team to devise and implement mitigation strategies and corrective actions.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, subconsultants, vendors and suppliers to deliver planning and design projects.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors, corporate management, inspectors, etc., providing customer service to develop long-term partnerships with client base and other stakeholders.
- Compile and submit permit applications to Local, State, and Federal Agencies to support delivery of design projects.
- Use industry-specific design and modeling software, or oversee others in the use of said software, to plan and design hydraulic systems, water plant infrastructure, treatment systems, and other infrastructure in line with industry and government standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Working knowledge of CAD related software (AutoCAD).
- Strong Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PDF).
- Effective negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Must pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check as a condition of employment.
- Required to possess a valid driver's license and legally be able to operate a company vehicle.
- Required to pass a preemployment drug screening.
- Must be able to physically perform all required duties which may include bending, lifting 50-pound objects, carrying 50-pound items, squatting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, working outdoors most of the time, or standing for prolonged periods of time.
- Required to wear company supplied Personal Protective Equipment.
- The applicant should be comfortable working around industrial equipment.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or relevant field
- 0-3 years of civil engineering work experience.
- 1-2 years Project Management experience
- Engineering in Training (EIT) Certification
