Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer Intern to join our structural steel and miscellaneous metals subcontracting firm. This internship provides hands-on exposure to commercial construction projects, working directly with general contractors, project managers, estimators, engineers, and shop/field teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing degrees in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related fields who want real-world experience in structural steel fabrication, detailing coordination, and project execution.

Our fabrication shop is over 45,000 SQF with state-of-the-art machinery.
We specialize in commercial buildings, large multi-unit residential projects, bridges and single-family homes.
We also provide design build engineering and calculations for new structures and retrofit projects
All estimating detailing and engineering are done in-house. We meet all AWS and Cal OSHA safety and standard requirements as required for an L.A city approved fabricator shop.
What You’ll Learn
· How to perform structural steel quantity takeoffs
· How to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings
· Understanding steel scopes (structural vs. miscellaneous metals)
· Material pricing and labor cost breakdowns
· Bid leveling and scope gap analysis
· How to prepare competitive and complete bid proposals
· Value engineering (VE) strategies
· How structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects are managed from award to closeout
· Submittal preparation and tracking
· RFI (Request for Information) management
· Coordination between GC, architects, engineers, and fabrication teams
· Change order pricing and cost tracking
· Site visits to observe steel erection and installation
Key Responsibilities for a Full Time Project Engineer (What you’ll be trained towards)
· Assist in reviewing quantity takeoffs from other estimators and creating a proposal
· Review plans and specifications to identify scope requirements
· Assist Project Managers with day-to-day project coordination
· Review structural drawings and help prepare takeoffs
· Track submittals, RFIs, and material deliveries
· Support change order documentation and pricing breakdowns
· Maintain organized project documentation
· Attend internal project meetings
· Visit job sites (as needed) to observe installation progress
Qualifications
· Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field
· Ability to read construction drawings (preferred but not required)
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
· Proficient in Bluebeam Revu
· Strong organizational and communication skills
· Detail-oriented and eager to learn
