Project Engineer (Landscape Construction – Public Works)

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Project Engineer to support the coordination, documentation, and closeout of landscape construction projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Purchasers, Superintendents, and field crews to ensure projects are executed and closed out in accordance with public works requirements.

This position is ideal for someone who understands construction documentation, is comfortable managing submittals and closeouts, and is looking to grow within public works construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers with day-to-day project coordination
  • Prepare, track, and manage submittals, RFIs, and substitutions
  • Coordinate with the Purchaser to ensure materials align with approved submittals
  • Review plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Track project schedules, deliverables, and deadlines
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation for public works compliance
  • Coordinate with field crews and superintendents regarding approved materials and documentation
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, inspectors, and consultants as directed by the Project Manager
  • Responsible for tracking assigned items through approval, completion, and closeout
  • Prepare and compile project closeout documentation, including:
  • As-built drawings
  • Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals
  • Warranties, certifications, and final submittals
  • Complete closeout packages for final acceptance
  • Willingness to visit job sites as needed to support documentation accuracy

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred
  • 1–3 years of experience in construction or project support roles (landscape construction preferred)
  • Experience with submittals, RFIs, and project closeout documentation
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Comfortable learning and working within construction management systems and shared document platforms
  • Ability to work under public works deadlines and compliance requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred
  • Public works experience is a plus

  • 8-hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
