Project Management Leader, Volunteer

About the Pet Cancer Foundation

The Pet Cancer Foundation’s vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. Each year, an estimated 12 million dogs and cats are diagnosed with cancer, roughly six times the rate in humans. We’re working to change that. As our volunteer organization continues to expand and we work to become the leading information resource provider in the field of pet health and animal cancer, we’re searching for an experienced project management leader. That is where and how you can help us.

About the role

This volunteer role as PCF's project management leader is intended to bring continuity to the numerous project managers supporting our content development teams. This position will unite the PMs in their work and introduce a reporting framework on the state and performance of initiatives within the department.

Please leave a note with your application acknowledging your awareness of the volunteer nature of this position. We will only contact and proceed with candidates who confirm their understanding.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage with and conduct weekly and monthly business reviews with project managers, and other relevant stakeholders to assess each project.
  • Maintain oversight and coordination of dependencies across projects in the portfolio and resolve or escalate conflicts.
  • Lead the human capital planning process for respective teams working with an assigned HR representative and leadership.
  • Maintain a master roadmap of project delivery. Manage prioritization, resourcing, and scheduling of content, working with team Project Managers. Issue comprehensive reports to leadership providing information on team progress.
  • Conduct regular meetings with the senior executive bodies to inform and alert them of any issues arising from the performance of the individual projects within the portfolio to assure the on-plan usage of existing resources, and to highlight any variances from approved plans.
  • Ensure adherence to the appropriate governance functions for the content produced, to be in accordance with PCF guidelines, policies, and best practices.
  • Perform regular health checks of project QA checklists. Identify and share best practices.
  • Direct the creation and maintenance of project documentation and artifacts.

About you

You excel at guiding diverse projects, ensuring alignment with overarching goals and strategic objectives. While your background may not be in scientific/medical content generation, your adaptable experience equips you to understand and manage the very complex editorial processes required. A natural communicator, you seamlessly collaborate with a global, highly educated team, keeping stakeholders informed. If you thrive on meticulous organization and relish the challenge of optimizing a vast portfolio, we're excited to partner with you. You have:

  • A degree in Business Administration, a related field, or comparable experience.
  • 10 or more years of experience in project management.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading diverse teams.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or equivalent required.
  • Program Management Professional (PGMP) Certification preferred.
  • PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) Certification preferred.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred.
  • Agile Certification (PMI-ACP) / Scrum Master (CSM) Certification Preferred.

What we provide you with

Volunteering with PCF in this leadership role is an opportunity to support the delivery of a core pillar of our mission; empowering pet families with information to support their pet's wellbeing. You’ll collaborate with other experienced executives, apply your leadership skills in meaningful ways, and help build a resilient content delivery program that makes our mission possible.
