Job Description: Project Manager – Data Center Construction

Location: Pune, India (Onsite) Employment Type: Full-time Experience: 7-15 years in data center construction, fit-outs, and MEP systems Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred) Reporting To: Senior Director of Data Center Operations (US-based)

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Manager to lead the design, construction, and commissioning of a new hyperscale/enterprise data center in Pune. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in data center construction , with deep expertise in mechanical, electrical, and cooling infrastructure .

This role requires strong technical knowledge, stakeholder management, and execution excellence to ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget, and to global standards . The candidate must be comfortable working with US leadership, local contractors, and engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Planning & Execution
  • Lead end-to-end project management for data center construction, including civil works, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), and IT infrastructure fit-out.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, risk assessments, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with Uptime Institute Tier Standards, ASHRAE guidelines, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure seamless execution.
  • Technical Oversight
  • Mechanical Systems:
    • Oversee HVAC, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, and airflow management.
    • Ensure proper hot/cold aisle containment, underfloor airflow, and liquid cooling (direct-to-chip, immersion cooling) implementation.
  • Electrical Systems:
    • Manage power distribution (HV/LV), UPS systems, generators, PDUs, and backup power solutions.
    • Ensure redundancy (N+1, 2N) and energy efficiency.
  • Cabling & Rack Layouts:
    • Supervise structured cabling (fiber/copper), cable tray routing, and rack power distribution.
    • Optimize space utilization, thermal management, and scalability.
  • Stakeholder & Vendor Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between US leadership, India operations, and local contractors.
  • Conduct weekly progress reviews, risk assessments, and budget tracking.
  • Manage RFPs, contractor selection, and SLA compliance.
  • Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce safety protocols (OSHA/NFPA standards) and ensure zero critical incidents.
  • Conduct quality inspections, testing, and commissioning of all systems.
  • Ensure sustainability compliance (LEED, energy-efficient cooling, carbon footprint reduction).
  • Reporting & Documentation
  • Maintain real-time dashboards for project health (schedule, budget, risks).
  • Provide executive updates to US leadership with data-driven insights.
  • Ensure as-built drawings, manuals, and handover documentation are properly archived.
Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Expertise

  • Must-Have:
    • 5-10 years of data center construction/fit-out experience.
    • Deep knowledge of grey space mechanical systems (cooling, airflow, containment).
    • Expertise in electrical infrastructure (UPS, generators, power distribution).
    • Familiarity with liquid cooling (direct-to-chip, immersion cooling).
    • Understanding of BMS (Building Management Systems) and DCIM tools.
  • Good-to-Have:
    • Knowledge of hyperscale data center standards (Google, AWS, Microsoft).
    • Experience with modular/prefabricated data center deployments.
Project Management Skills

  • PMP/PRINCE2 certification (preferred).
  • Proficiency in MS Project, JIRA, AutoCAD, or BIM tools.
  • Strong risk management, budgeting, and scheduling skills.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication (verbal & written) for US stakeholder management.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a strong work ethic and "can-do" attitude.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
