We’re looking for someone with a passion for CMoS, a penchant for em dashes and a tolerance for omitting the Oxford comma (we know!) With a supportive team (and your trusty Style Guide) at your side, you’ll be editing and proofreading the full gamut of marketing materials—everything from emails and blogs to postcard mailings and conference catalogs—while delving into the world of employee benefits.

Timeline:

At the time of posting, this seasonal role is intended to run through mid-October 2026.

Summary:

Under the direction of the Proofing Supervisor, this position ensures the accuracy of materials published by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and the International Society of Certified Employee Benefit Specialists.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proofread any job as required by user departments of the International Foundation and International Society. Jobs may include emails, blogs, ads, registration forms, brochures, periodicals, web content and more. This will require the checking of spelling, punctuation, hyphenation, grammar, format, accuracy, consistency and sentence structure.
  • Use printed samples, the internet, internal databases and other available resources to check factual information (including dates, locations, prices, program details and speaker information) in printed and virtual material.
  • Check each job for typographic integrity: font, point size, leading, kerning and consistency while communicating with graphic artists and designers to ensure that all changes and corrections are clearly understood.
  • Exercise good judgment with minimum supervision while applying knowledge to assigned tasks, keeping in mind the impact on the overall operation of the department.
  • Work efficiently on multiple assignments to ensure the timely meeting of deadlines while maintaining good communication that will contribute to the smooth operation of the department and enhance the development of a cohesive team.
  • Communicate with editors or job originators when questions arise and make editorial suggestions where appropriate.
Requirements:

Required Education/Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in English or journalism or similar field is required.
  • Successful experience proofreading is needed.

The International Foundation will always consider candidates with an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Minimum Qualifications/Skills:

  • Demonstrates self-motivation and flexibility and maintains a professional and pleasant demeanor
  • Possesses ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrates strong personal organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Exhibits a long attention span and above-average reading comprehension
  • Has proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Has high proficiency with spelling, grammar and usage of the English language, including the ability to identify spelling and grammatical errors as well as apply varying standards to specific jobs as required
  • Possesses familiarity with standard proofreading symbols and principles of good typography
  • Exhibits strong communication skills (both verbal and written)

Travel Requirements:

There will be no travel requirements for this position.

Hybrid Work Environment:

This position is expected to work from our corporate headquarters office in Brookfield, WI. This is an environment with typical office conditions, including lighting, noise, seating and equipment.

New hires are expected to be fully on site during the training period. Then, once fully trained, the Foundation operates on a 60/40 hybrid schedule with 60% being on site at our headquarters in Brookfield (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) and up-to 40% being optionally remote (Mondays and Fridays) and as business needs allow.

To be eligible to work remotely, employees must have an appropriately equipped home office that will allow them to maintain the same levels of productivity (quality and quantity of work, and overall responsiveness and accessibility) when working remotely as when working at the office.

COMPENSATION:

The pay for this role is $19.21/hour.
