Property Large Loss and Litigation Examiner

What you will do

This role will focus primarily on resolving litigated commercial and homeowner property claims. The ability to also manage complex and high exposure files with sound judgment and organization will be critical in this role. Skills in coverage analysis, investigation, negotiation, and customer service will be needed to settle claims for proper amounts and within authorization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate, evaluate, negotiate and resolve litigated property claims in a fair and timely manner.
  • Develop and execute litigation strategies, including exposure analysis, defense posture, and settlement planning.
  • Retain and oversee defense counsel, including strategy, budgets, and performance management.
  • Consult with supervisor on more complex coverage and litigated matters.
  • Handle property claims of a complex and large loss nature; perform claims investigations and handles matters requiring broad technical knowledge at an expert level.
  • Operates on an independent basis with little supervision; mitigate, negotiate and settle claims within assigned authority with a strong focus of overall claim resolution within targeted timeframes.
  • Conduct coverage evaluations and issue coverage correspondence as required.
  • Operate independently and resolve claims within an assigned authority.
  • Attend mediations, settlement conferences, and hearings virtually or in person as necessary.
  • Coordinate discovery, evidence handling, and expert resources.
  • Establish and maintain accurate indemnity and expense reserves.
  • Maintain high quality, compliant claim files and support audits or litigation reviews.
  • Collaborate with internal partners including Legal, SIU, Subrogation, and Claims Leadership.
  • Advise teammates on recent legal developments.
  • Reviews court decisions, and coverage interpretations, and is required to have a broad knowledge and understanding of Property law and claim practices.
  • Be a resource for teammates on complex claim strategies and coverage issues.

What you need:

  • 5+ years of commercial and homeowners property claims experience.
  • 3+ years direct experience handling litigated and large loss property claims preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of property policy forms, coverage interpretation, and large loss damage drivers.
  • Demonstrated experience managing defense counsel, litigation strategy, and legal expense.
  • Experience with mediation, appraisal, and negotiated resolution preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Licensing:

Required to obtain your license(s) as an adjuster in the state(s) in which you are assigned to adjust claims. Licensing must be obtained within the timeframe set forth by the Company and must be maintained as needed throughout your employment.


Salary range: $85,000 - $120,000

The final salary to be paid and position within the internal salary range is reflective of the employee’s work experience, their geographic location, education, certification(s), scope and responsibilities in the role, and additional qualifications.
