Property Steward

Job Overview
The Property Steward is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in the church building. This role includes regular cleaning of key areas, periodic deep cleaning of additional spaces, and ensuring the facility is well-maintained for worship services, meetings, community groups and events.

Responsibilities

This position is a physical job that requires the steward to lift, bend, stoop, reach, walk, dust, scrub, sweep, mop, vacuum, use the stairs, and climb a ladder.

• Cleaning Duties: Perform regular cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing all areas of the church, such as the sanctuary, meeting rooms, bathrooms, outdoor spaces (sidewalks, porches, steps, and entrances) and kitchen.
• Maintenance Tasks: Conduct minor repairs, such as changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, and performing touch-up painting. Report any major maintenance needs to church buildings, grounds, or equipment to the Pastor and the Building and Grounds chairperson.
• Event Preparation: Set up and break down furniture for church events, meetings, and services, ensuring that all areas are ready for use. Organize hymnals and replace pencils and envelopes in pews prior to Sunday services.
• Supply Management: Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and other necessary items, ensuring that all public areas are stocked appropriately.
• Safety and Security: Ensure the security of the church property by locking and unlocking doors as needed and monitoring the premises for safety hazards.

Qualifications

• Experience in custodial or cleaning services preferred.
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Physical ability to lift and move objects (up to 50 lbs.) and perform manual labor.
• Dependable, punctual, and trustworthy.
• Commitment to maintaining a respectful and welcoming environment in alignment with the church’s mission.
• Employment contingent upon successful background check.

Job Type: Part-time

Expected hours: No more than 38 per week
