This position requires the employee to perform Legal Assistance and related confidential functions and duties for the Assistant Law Director(s) (Prosecutors).
Legal Administrative Expertise

Technical Proficiency
Proficient or ability to learn word processing, case management systems, legal databases, and GIS or digital filing tools. Uses technology effectively to draft correspondence, prepare legal documents, and manage data entry with speed and accuracy.
Essential Responsibilities
- Helps prepare documents for filing in court; creates criminal files which contain but are not limited to Incident Reports, L.E.A.D.S., criminal history; prepares Criminal Complaints under supervision and various other Legal Documents which include Subpoenas for Victims and Witnesses needed for appropriate prosecution.
- Acquire the requisite knowledge of the criminal process and prosecution to be able to appropriately respond to inquiries (in person and telephone) by the public (including victims, defendants, the media and others).
- Prepares correspondence and maintains Criminal Case electronic files while monitoring court-filing deadlines for criminal cases. This person has the ability to appropriately and effectively interact with the Police, the Court, Victims’ Advocates, Defense Attorneys and other Public Agencies. This person performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
- Posses or acquire the requisite knowledge and experience in Law Office procedures and management, including being proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer skills for the preparation of legal documents regarding criminal prosecution.
- Posses or acquire significant knowledge and proficiency in legal terminology, business English, spelling, punctuation, grammar, format and tone and knowledge of and experience in modern law office practices and procedures which necessarily includes appropriate interaction with the court, law enforcement personnel, law offices and related personnel.
- Ability to report to work on time and maintain an exceptional attendance record.
- Responsible to self-initiate activities consistent with the City of Sandusky’s and department’s goals and objectives.

- Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. - High School Diploma, an associate degree; or any equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
