Protection Engineer – Switchgear & Power Systems

Job Title: Protection Engineer
Location: Mesaieed and Ras Laffan, Qatar
Employment Type: Full-Time Contract (6 months) (Extendable)
Salary: 13,000 QAR per month (All Inclusive)

Our client, a global technology leader, is seeking an experienced Protection Engineer with strong expertise in medium and low voltage switchgear, protection relays, and power system design. This role will support engineering, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical protection systems for industrial, utility, and infrastructure power distribution projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop protection and control schemes for electrical power distribution systems.
• Perform relay protection studies, coordination studies, and fault analysis.
• Create and review relay settings, one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection logic.
• Support engineering design for MV/LV switchgear, breaker protection, bus protection, transformer protection, and feeder protection.
• Configure, test, and commission protection relays (SEL, ABB, GE, Siemens relays, etc.).
• Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) for switchgear and protection systems.
• Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis for relay operations or equipment faults.
• Provide technical support to internal project teams and external customer stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards such as IEEE, IEC, NEC, and NESC.
• Prepare technical reports, documentation packages, and commissioning checklists.
• Participate in customer meetings and provide technical presentations as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in protection engineering and power systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with switchgear systems (MV/LV).
• Proficiency with protection relays, settings development, and testing procedures.
