Protein Chemist

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Chemist to join our team. Key functions of the position in-depth knowledge and operational experience of AKTA Avant FPLC system with UNICORN software for the purpose of purification of bacterial and plant-derived toxins. Experience with ion exchange chromatography (CEX, AEX), hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC), size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and affinity chromatography is required. Specific duties include the preparation of custom affinity resins (antigen immobilization) to purify antigen-specific antibodies, FPLC system operations and maintenance and carry out QA/QC established assays as assigned. The position requires passing of a federal background check.

Responsibilities

Assist with the optimization of multi-step purification methods

Run and maintain AKTA Avant FPLC system including installation and maintenance of FPLC hardware

• Knowledge and operation of Unicorn software system
• Operate chromatography systems: Ion exchange chromatography (CEX, AEX Hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC, Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) Affinity chromatography
• Prepare and maintain affinity resins, samples, solutions/buffers . Hand pack chromatography columns. Perform routine quality control testing of chromatography columns and equipment. Determine dynamic binding capacity (DBC) of chromatography columns
• Maintain organized laboratory records and logs
• Assist with development of Standard Operating Procedures
• Follow safety procedures
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support manufacturing processes and quality control initiatives.
• Maintain accurate records of experiments, results, and observations in compliance with laboratory protocols.
• Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the laboratory workspace.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry or similar science with a minimum of 3 years' experience working with AKTA FPLC purification systems
• Extensive knowledge of FPLC instrumentation and LC separation techniques for native proteins
• Prior demonstrated experience developing and validating/verifying purification procedures under design control using a requirements-driven, risk-based approach within the biotech industry or clinical laboratory.
• Proficient computer skills (UNICORN, Microsoft, Teams)
• A strong track record of independence, productivity and creative problem-solving
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
