Prototype Machinist

Summary

This position requires the applicant to set-up and operate CNC and manual machines (Mill, Lathe and/or VMC, Turning Center) to build prototype parts from engineering print or from physical example, to assist with rework operations to support the production line, and to interface with engineers on a technical level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program, setup, edit, trouble-shoot and execute programs to produce parts using CNC machines.
Create plans and procedures for manufacturing parts by analyzing written specifications, drawings, rough sketches, and verbal instructions to determine sequence of operations.
Perform advanced preventive and corrective maintenance on shop machines.
Design fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts by discussing with engineering essential specifications to meet engineering and production needs.
Verify accuracy by using measuring devices to manufacture parts according to specifications.
Recommend changes or modifications by evaluating experimental procedures and designs for efficiency and adaptability of production.
Make jigs, fixtures, and tooling for production by using common machines, (i.e. mill, lathe, rotary tables and indexing head).
Maintain a clean work space.

Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of Machine Shop practices and equipment.
Strong technical and mechanical hands-on ability to make informed decisions and troubleshoot problems.
Knowledge of Bridgeport Mills, Hardinge lathes and Finish grinders preferred.
Two years experience programming and operating CNC machines (Lathes, Mills, Turning Centers)
Experience in an ISO certified company preferred.
Knowledge of Mastercam and SolidWorks a plus.
Experience programming and operating 5 axis mills a plus.Experience programming and operating 4 axis lathes a plus.
