Prototyping Technician

Responsibilities

  • Fabrication & Assembly: Build, assemble, and modify prototype components and systems (mechanical, electrical, or structural) using engineering drawings, schematics, or CAD files.
  • Testing & Troubleshooting: Conduct functional testing on prototypes, diagnose failures, and implement design fixes.
  • Rapid Prototyping Operations: Operate and maintain equipment such as 3D printers, CNC machines, laser cutters, and hand tools.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Document assembly procedures, create reports on test results, and provide feedback to engineering teams on manufacturability.
  • Quality Control & Safety: Ensure prototypes meet design specifications and maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
  • Material Management: Maintain inventory of lab supplies and track prototype materials.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: Typically requires an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent hands-on technical training.
  • Experience: Proven experience in fabrication, prototyping, or manufacturing environments (often 3-5+ years).
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and CAD models (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Tools: Familiarity with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers) and machine shop equipment.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and ability to work in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

Pay: From $32.00 per hour
