Job Description – English Teacher (Grades 3–5)

Grade Level: 3–5
1. Role Overview
The English Teacher for Grades 3–5 will be responsible for delivering engaging, age-appropriate English language instruction that builds strong foundational skills in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension. The role requires a child-centric approach, creativity in teaching, and the ability to integrate experiential and activity-based learning.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Teaching & Classroom Management
- Plan and deliver English lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum and learning outcomes.
- Use interactive, activity-based teaching methods (stories, phonics reinforcement, group work, role plays, reading circles, etc.).
- Develop students’ grammar, vocabulary, sentence construction, and creative writing skills.
- Conduct regular assessments to track learning progress and provide timely feedback.
- Maintain a disciplined, inclusive, and positive classroom environment.
B. Instructional Planning
- Prepare lesson plans, teaching aids, worksheets, and reading materials.
- Incorporate technology, audio-visual aids, and innovative tools to enhance learning.
- Modify instruction for diverse learners while maintaining grade-level expectations.
C. Student Development
- Encourage reading habits, expression, confidence, and communication skills.
- Support students with differentiated strategies for writing, comprehension, and speaking.
- Identify learning gaps and provide remedial or enrichment support where required.
D. Documentation & Evaluation
- Maintain student records, assessment sheets, portfolios, and progress notes.
- Prepare report cards and participate in parent–teacher meetings.
E. Collaboration & School Involvement
- Work closely with grade teachers, subject heads, and the academic coordinator.
- Contribute to school events, assemblies, competitions, English week/literary activities.
- Participate in training sessions, workshops, and curriculum planning meetings.
3. Skills & Competencies Required
- Strong command of English (spoken and written).
- Excellent communication, classroom management, and presentation skills.
- Creativity in lesson planning and content delivery.
- Empathy, patience, and child-friendly behaviour.
- Ability to engage young learners and make concepts easy to understand.
- Tech-savvy: comfortable with smart boards, PPTs, digital tools.
4. Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in English / Literature / Education (B.A. + B.Ed).
- Preferred: M.A. (English) or additional certifications in language teaching.
- 1–5 years of teaching experience in primary grades (CBSE/ICSE experience preferred).
