We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, with a commitment to providing comprehensive mental health care across diverse patient populations. Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including mental status examinations and diagnostic assessments using ICD-10 coding standards.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating psychopharmacology, therapy, and other modalities such as Botulinum toxin treatment or esthetic laser procedures when appropriate.
  • Prescribe medications responsibly, ensuring adherence to HIPAA regulations and best practices in medication administration.
  • Manage acute and chronic mental health conditions across inpatient, outpatient, and telehealth settings, including geriatrics, pediatrics, and behavioral health populations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate discharge planning, case management, and utilization review for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Utilize EMR system (SimplePractice) for accurate medical documentation, patient records management, and clinical research initiatives.
  • Provide education on mental health topics to patients and their families while supporting health coaching efforts aimed at promoting wellness and recovery.

Skills

  • Extensive experience working with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Proficiency in psychopharmacology, including medication administration and monitoring for side effects.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10 coding standards for accurate diagnosis documentation.
  • Experience managing complex cases involving acute pain management or hospice & palliative medicine when applicable.
  • Familiarity with telehealth platforms to deliver remote psychiatric care effectively.
  • Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and mental status evaluations.
  • Knowledge of neuropsychiatric conditions such as dementia care or Alzheimer's disease is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills for working with individuals with developmental disabilities or those requiring specialized behavioral health interventions. Schedule

This is a highly flexible position with part and full-time options. Normal office hours run from 8AM to 5PM, but providers are welcome to see clients before and after hours depending upon client needs. During normal office hours, providers have full administrative support, including appointment scheduling and call answering.

Our practice has an existing client population in need of psychiatric treatment. Our current demands can fill one part-time schedule. We expect that our scheduling demands could meet the criteria for a full-time schedule soon.

Work location

This position is primarily an in-person position. We do provide telehealth, and a telehealth hybrid schedule is available if it is preferable to meet client demands.

Requirements

  • Masters or Doctoral degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Practice (or equivalent).
  • Unencumbered license to practice in Alabama.
  • Active DEA license.
  • Individual malpractice liability insurance. Though our practice does provide group coverage, all of our staff carry individual coverage.
  • Weekday availability.
  • Existing collaborative practice agreement is preferred but is not required.
  • Existing insurance paneling is preferred but is not required.

Compensation and Benefits

The qualified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will be compensated with seventy ($70) dollars per hour. This position is a regular employment (W-2), not a contract (1099) position.

Full time clinical staff, or clinical staff who provide services for more than thirty two (32) hours per week, are entitled to benefits. Benefits for full time clinical staff include the following:

  • $500 annual professional development stipend.
  • One hour of paid dedicated documentation time per day worked.
  • One hour of paid lunch time per day worked.
