Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide expert psychiatric care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients across diverse age groups and clinical settings. Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including mental status examinations and patient history reviews
  • Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating psychopharmacology and therapy modalities aligned with best practices
  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications while ensuring adherence to safety protocols and regulatory standards
  • Collaborate closely with primary care providers, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care
  • Provide patient education on medication use, side effects, and coping strategies to promote mental wellness
  • Document all clinical encounters accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or eClinicalWorks
  • Participate in clinical research initiatives and quality improvement projects aimed at advancing behavioral health services

Skills

  • Proven experience with Epic, Athenahealth, or similar EHR systems for efficient documentation and patient management
  • Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology principles and medication administration protocols
  • Skilled in performing mental health assessments across pediatric, adult, geriatric, and special populations including assisted living and memory care residents
  • Familiarity with telehealth platforms to deliver remote psychiatric consultations effectively
  • Ability to manage acute psychiatric crises, including triage, de-escalation techniques, and emergency interventions in hospital or outpatient settings
  • Experience working within inpatient units such as ICU or Level I Trauma Centers is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of CPT coding for billing purposes related to psychiatric procedures and services
  • Competence in managing complex cases involving substance use disorders, trauma, dementia care, or developmental disabilities
  • Excellent communication skills for patient education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and case management
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and secure handling of medical records
