Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Part-Time with Full-Time Growth Opportunity | W-2 Employee Position

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, clinically strong, and patient-centered Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our growing outpatient mental health practice. This is a W-2 employee position offering an initial part-time schedule with the opportunity to transition into full-time employment as patient demand expands.

We are specifically seeking a provider with availability on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays to support our growing patient population.

The ideal candidate is passionate about delivering evidence-based psychiatric care to adolescent and adult patients, values collaborative practice, and is comfortable integrating both medication management and therapeutic support into patient care. Candidates with psychotherapy experience are strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and mental status examinations for adolescent and adult patients
  • Diagnose psychiatric conditions using DSM-5 criteria and evidence-based clinical judgment
  • Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s clinical needs
  • Prescribe, manage, and monitor psychiatric medications, including assessment of efficacy, tolerability, and adherence
  • Provide supportive psychotherapy, psychoeducation, and brief therapeutic interventions within scope of practice
  • Conduct crisis assessments, suicide risk evaluations, safety planning, and coordinate higher levels of care when clinically appropriate
  • Support continuity of care through ongoing therapeutic engagement and medication management

Patient Experience

  • Build strong therapeutic relationships through compassionate, patient-centered care
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medications, and wellness strategies
  • Encourage collaborative patient participation in treatment planning and long-term mental wellness

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Collaborate with therapists, primary care providers, care coordinators, and other interdisciplinary team members
  • Participate in clinical consultation, team meetings, peer collaboration, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Coordinate referrals and continuity of care to ensure comprehensive patient support

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Adhere to HIPAA requirements, state and federal regulations, and professional practice standards
  • Practice in accordance with ethical guidelines and evidence-based psychiatric care standards

Telehealth / Hybrid Care

  • Deliver high-quality psychiatric care through secure telehealth platforms when appropriate
  • Conduct virtual risk assessments and crisis intervention consistent with established protocols
  • Adapt clinical engagement strategies to support effective remote care delivery

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program
  • Current PMHNP-BC certification through ANCC
  • Active, unrestricted RN/APRN license in the applicable state
  • Active DEA registration (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Experience or strong comfort treating adolescent and adult psychiatric populations
  • Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology, psychiatric assessment, and evidence-based treatment approaches
  • Excellent communication, clinical judgment, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems and telehealth technology

Preferred

  • Experience providing psychotherapy or integrating therapeutic interventions into psychiatric care
  • 1+ year of psychiatric PMHNP experience preferred (strong new graduates may be considered)
  • Experience in outpatient psychiatry, community mental health, or telepsychiatry
  • Trauma-informed and culturally responsive clinical approach
  • Multi-state licensure or willingness to obtain additional licenses

Schedule

  • Initial part-time position
  • Desired availability: Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays
