Job Description: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides advanced psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management services for individuals receiving treatment for mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders. This role collaborates closely with therapists, case managers, and medical providers to support integrated, client-centered care across PHP, IOP, and outpatient levels of care.
Psychiatric Evaluation & Medication Management
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and risk assessments.
- Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, and adherence.
- Provide psychoeducation to clients regarding diagnoses and medications.
Collaboration & Treatment Planning
- Collaborate with therapists, case managers, and medical staff to develop integrated treatment plans.
- Participate in clinical team meetings, case reviews, and utilization review discussions.
- Provide consultation and clinical guidance to the treatment team.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete evaluations, medication orders, progress notes, and discharge summaries in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with DPH/BSAS, DMH, insurance, and accreditation standards.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, DEA regulations, and prescribing laws.
Professional & Ethical Responsibilities
- Maintain active licensure, DEA registration, and required continuing education.
- Uphold ethical standards and professional boundaries.
- Participate in supervision, training, and professional development.
Required
- Licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
- Active DEA registration and prescriptive authority.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience providing psychiatric services.
- Experience working with mental health and/or substance use disorders.
Preferred
- Experience treating co-occurring disorders.
- Familiarity with ASAM criteria and levels of care.
- Experience in PHP/IOP or multidisciplinary treatment settings.
- Strong diagnostic and clinical judgment skills.
- Knowledge of psychopharmacology.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Pay: $5,000.00 - $7,000.00 per month
